LSU quarterback Danny Etling was named SEC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the League on Wednesday. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Etling joins offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger as the only LSU players to be named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in the 15-year history of the award.

Etling, a 2017 LSU graduate, is the Vice-Chair of the SEC Football Leadership Council and the Tigers’ nominee for the 2017 NABC Good Works Team. The Terre Haute, Indiana, native totaled a 3.74 GPA in mass communication and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in both 2016 and 2017.

A leader in the community, Etling achieved Eagle Scout status as part of his commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. Etling owns a 16-6 record as the Tigers’ starting quarterback and his 22 career starts are the fourth-most in school history. Etling has passed for more than 4,000 yards at LSU for 10th on the school’s career list.

Great for Danny doing it on and off the field. LSU can win a lot of football games with a QB like him. Not the greatest arm talent but protected the football and was efficient. Before you down vote me, don't forget about Brandon Harris, Marcus Randall and Anthony Jennings.

He showed a lot of confidence in himself to transfer from Purdue to LSU and believe he could beat out quite a few QB's that were already there and that were expected to be much more successful but he showed the Heart and got it done. Great Job Danny and good luck in your future endeavors.

May we not forget that these guys come here for a degree, first and foremost. The vast majority will never go pro in their respective sport. This is what it is all about. Congrats, Danny. Solid Ambassador for our University.

What an awesome awesome young man! He is someone I have pointed to when discussing role models to my boys......the fact he is an Eagle and they are Scouts not withstanding:)

Got to meet him last year at Disney World during Citrus Bowl week. He took a few pics with my kids, but refused to do so without his linemen. Respectable young man.

I really like this guy. He does all the right things on and off the field. What a mentor he could be to incoming freshman if O could find a spot for him. Regardless, he’s a winner and will be successful in any field he chooses. I’m also glad to see all the positive responses from Tiger fans! A classy bunch!

The interesting stats are he’s 4th all time in starts and 10th all time in passing yards. Great job. No doubt, Danny Etling will be a success in life. He has repped LSU well and will continue to. Glad he came to LSU.
