Lane Kiffin's Practices Look A Little Different And There's A Reason For It

During his media availability after LSU's first fall practice on Wednesday, Lane Kiffin explained that the Tigers are intentionally structuring camp differently than most programs in an effort to have the team playing its best football in late November and December—not just in September.

Kiffin explained that they want to avoid soft-tissue injuries, especially with the wide receivers and defensive backs, as it not only keeps them out but also disrupts quarterback timing when those guys can't practice.

"Those injuries happen, they linger, and we fall behind," Kiffin said. "It's usually receivers and DBs, and then we can't practice the way we want to, and the quarterback's timing can be off."

Kiffin also said that "we" (as in Ole Miss) were as healthy as any team in the playoff last year due to their changes in practice in the offseason.

The additional OTA work also allows the team to take some reps off early in practice since the players have had so much work leading into fall camp, Kiffin added.

LSU's fall camp schedule consists of 15 practices, alternating between AM and PM start times, four walk-throughs, two scrimmages, and wraps up with a "mock game" before Clemson week.
