Former LSU and current Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons was not shy about who he thinks should win the NBA Rookie of the Year when he was recently asked the question by ESPN.

Per ESPN:
quote:

Simmons is in elite company. His 12 triple-doubles for a rookie places him second in league history, behind Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson (26). Magic Johnson, whom many consider the greatest point guard to take the court, compiled eight his rookie year.

The Australia native is doing it all for the Sixers, averaging 16.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game. And his team is sitting in the third spot in the Eastern Conference, enjoying a league-high 14-game winning streak. The Sixers have won 50 games for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

Ben's a great basketball player, a future HOF...he never should have been put in a position where he had to go to college for 1 year. The problem with his stint at LSU isn't Ben, it's the system.

Some LSU Fans don’t get how truly useful having an elite NBA Player is and it’s kind of mind blowing.

WIll Wade has done just fine getting top talent to come here without Ben Simmons... and if Ben Simmons does not acknowledge ever being part of LSU, and has even talked shite on LSU, how exactly does it help LSU? I know he had a crummy HC and support staff around him while he was here, but didn't do his part either. Nobody made him come to LSU. The NBA says one year out of HS... does not say they have to go attend college in the USA. We gave him the opportunity, and he shite on us. What is mind blowing, is supporting someone who does not support you... Oh wait, that is just idiotic.

Considering he didn’t play last year and would have been a college junior this year I’d say your wrong in your opinion.

Like Bird back in the 3-point contests, "who's gonna be second y'all".

I like the confidence but he could try acting humble and name one rookie who has some game that he respects at least.

It’s simmons and it’s not even close. I don’t get why this is a story. He’s already playing like a top 15 player in the league in his rookie year. If he develops a jump shot he’ll be a top 3 player in a couple years

He should retroactively get last year’s and Mitchell this year. Malcom frickin Brogdon doesn’t deserve it.

Please tell me one great thing he did as an LSU Tiger... Or one time he has said something good about LSU... Or one time you have seen him wear anything LSU... The dude has no appreciation for LSU. He could not even be bothered to play hard for LSU when he was here. So please explain to me why I should not bash him... since I'm a redneck and don't understand how CBB works

It’s not about what he did at LSU, it’s about what he’s going to do. Having a truly elite player in the NBA is ALWAYS a nice recruiting tool, any Tiger fan who can’t comprehend that shouldn’t watch CBB. And why would he have any appreciation for us? He was forced to come to college, choose LSU, got stuck with an awful head coach and poor supporting cast while trying to carry a team to an NCAA Tournament appearance almost by himself.
