Former Tulane shortstop Andy Cannizaro — LSU’s recruiting coordinator and hitting coach — will interview for the head coaching job at his alma mater Wednesday, multiple sources told The Advocate.

Cannizaro, who has been in Atlanta all week recruiting for LSU, declined comment when reached Tuesday.

LSU head coach Paul Mainieri told The Advocate on Tuesday that he had a “great conversation” with Tulane athletic director Troy Dannen last week, when he gave Cannizaro “as strong a recommendation as I could possibly give a person.”
Cannizaro was hired at LSU in 2014 to replace Javi Sanchez.

As an LSU fan, I would love him to stay, but as an AC fan, it would be great for him to become a head coach...just hate to see it happen @ TU...

Would be shocked if he was offered the job. Way more qualified candidates would have to turn it down for him to get gig. Courtesy interview IMO
