Multiple sources are reporting that former LSU Tiger Alex Bregman has agreed to a five-year, $100 million contract extension with the Houston Astros. Per Chron.com:

The Astros and the All-Star third baseman have agreed to a five-year, $100 million contract, according to a person familiar with the deal. It will cover his three years of arbitration-eligibility and the first two seasons he could become a free agent.

The deal is the second-largest in Astros franchise history, trailing only Jose Altuve's five-year, $151 million extension signed last year. Bregman's is the second-largest pre-arbitration contract given to a player. The Angels' Mike Trout signed a six-year, $144 million deal in 2014.

He's going to need a lot of wheel-barrels to carry around that kind of loot...

If he keeps at his current pace, the Astros are getting a bargain. And, that's still a lot of money. Good for both sides.

When I say "bargain," I mean by baseball market prices.
