I think more people, at least in Louisiana, write lightening rather than lightning. The worst was a warning poster at a state park that had it spelled both ways. At least pick one and stick with it.

When I was a kid in Folsom, a family decided to hold a garage sale. There were signs all over town announcing the "gagage sale," the "gagare sale," the "garare sale," etc.
