Ex-USC Coach Steve Sarkisian Joins Alabama Staff

Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Monday that former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian has been hired by the Crimson Tide as an analyst. Per ESPN:

"We talked about it quite a while ago," Saban said. "I told him we'd love to have him as a part of the organization."

As an analyst, Sarkisian can watch film of games and practice and provide input on the overall direction of the team, including the game plan. He is, however, not allowed to have a hands-on coaching role, interacting with players on the football field.

Sarkisian was fired by USC in the middle of his second season last October.

I'm appalled at Sarkisian's behavior at USC, and Kiffin is a tool, but these are both brilliant hires by Bama. Kiffin has been a home run as OC, and Saban knows he'll be leaving soon. Sark may be next in line as OC at Bama, and Saban gets to put him on the payroll for pennies. They're both personal train wrecks, but they're damn good offensive football coaches.

Smart move and low risk. He's a glorified consultant. He gets a short leash, and if he screws up once, he's out. At best, you have someone to step in at OC when Kiffin gets another job. At worst he makes an arse of himself a la Mike Price. Trust THE PROCESS.

The only film he's going to be asked to analyze is dashcam film. "Now see, he didn't respond to the question about understanding his Miranda rights so, technically, the arrest won't hold up in court. We're lucky he wasn't arrested anyway but keep that in mind next time. Hey - how many more of these do we have to look at? It's 9:00 a.m. and I really need a drink."
