I have no idea why people have such a problem with iTunes
I did recently buy a shuffle for the gym and had to use the new iTunes. Was definitely surprised how much better the program runs now. But I've already moved everything to google music.

Last time I had to install iTunes on a PC to set up my wife's old iPhone it was a 45 minute ordeal which included about 14 other apple apps i neither wanted yet had no choice.
Thanks, CAD - my iTunes PTSD was just about gone...
Appreciate it...

It's the same thing because you are basing your opinion of Android on a 4 year old version.

Again, I've never stated it hasn't gotten better. But I have absolutely no reason to switch.
That's fine, but just so you understand where Android people are coming from: having no reason to switch is much, much different than not being able to switch.

kork's made a very good point. here's what this thread boils down to
- iOS and android provide essentially the same features..almost identical to the point photos sync, contacts, cloud services, music, etc is a commodity now.
- its not android vs iOS; its 'hardware agnostic' vs 'apple hardware only'
kork is merely trying to point out google isn't requiring anyone to own a particular type of computer or phone to use their products. apple does.

Honestly, this is the only stance you can have an even maintain the illusion of choice.
I can go Windows phone tomorrow and still use my Google Apps.
Once you're in the Apple ecosystem, they have you trapped - and it is by design.

Android is the entire operating system, iTunes is one program within an OS...so no.

Ok....so again...why would I want to switch? I can change whenever I want to. When iOS starts going in a direction I don't like I'll gladly entertain other options. Until then, no I don't have a reason to switch.

Trapped? Really? Not by a stretch.

I think the "trapped" concept is a bit of an exaggeration. It's 100% Windows PCs in my house, but I use an iPhone 4s. There's nothing limiting me. While it's not that great of a program, frustrations with iTunes are overblown.

Oh? If you switch to an Android phone, you can't use iMessage anymore so that situation is totally fricked. You also can't use iTunes Match, so your music situation is also fricked until you can transfer everything to an OS-agnostic option. Your photo stream is also fricked. All of the Apple services are tied into your iPhone, so switching for you would be an unbelievable pain in the arse.
Me? I could switch to an iPhone tomorrow, install Hangouts, Google Music, and G+ and I'm ready to roll. I can also buy a PC, Mac, or (as I actually do) install Linux and use all of these services, as well. No headaches. There is nothing to coerce me to buy stuff from a particular company.

My wife loves her iphone but strictly uses google apps because of the ease of access on every other device.

Well, I guess that's where I differ from an all-in Apple user. To me, iMessage is more of a perk than anything else, because I only use it on my phone. I'm on an old-school AT&T plan with 200 messages per month, and iMessage integrates with SMS seamlessly, so switching to Android would simply mean that more of my texts would count toward my monthly $5 200-message plan. For everything else, I'm pretty much all Google.

iTunes Match
Same, don't even use it. My music is all DRM-free files. I put them where I need them, so nothing would really change other than where I drag and drop them. Even then, I'd probably just continue to use Pandora 99% of the time.
I can see the point, though. If you go balls deep in Apple, pulling out would probably be a bitch. But just looking at mobile OS vs. mobile OS and ignoring every other device in the home, it really just doesn't seem to matter.

The insidious iMessage trap that basically makes it where if you adopt an android phone you have to resign yourself to never getting all of your text messages again is pretty much the worst thing Apple does. Sad thing is, many of its users never know that they aren't getting messages. Even more sad, many users believe android is the culprit, not Apple.

No, he's talking about hangouts. My wife and I chat back and forth between her iphone and my android over wifi using hangouts. I can't get imessage on my android.

I've switched from iOS to android twice in the last two years and I've never had this problem. I just turned iMessage off before I switched sims and I was good to go.
Not sure what the rest of the world is doing because it does seem to happen to people a lot :/
And yes, it's definitely something Apple needs to fix. Not sure how they would do this though.

Not to be obnoxious (I'm coming from a place where I have had to deal with this problem for way too many users), but most people will never know if they are experiencing the problem or not. Further, it is really difficult sometimes to tell if you have the issue, even if you think you don't. That's one of the worst parts about it. You might have your spouse and close friends figured out, but your buddy in Memphis who contacts you only once in a blue moon may not be getting through. It is intentional, and it is bullshite.
