quote:Google Music does the same, except not only does it work with my computers and Android phones, but it is cross-platform and works on iOS and any device with a web browser.
One great example is iTunes Match. I can download anything I want, drop it in iTunes, and it's available for streaming on all my devices in iTunes quality right away, no matter what quality I downloaded. I use that feature constantly.
quote:Same with Google Music and Chromecast.
Having it on my phone on the go or on my Apple TV at home through my surround without doing anything besides dropping it into iTunes on my iMac rules.
It seems kind of hard to count iTunes Match as a positive for the Apple ecosystem, when it is extremely limited as to which devices it works with, while Google's solution will work on almost any device in the world.

Spoken like someone who owned a Droid Incredible before my 4S and now 5S.
The iPhone is a solid phone. Especially with some of the new features in iOS 8 (specifically the integration with Yosemite). I almost want to run chrome os to have some of those same features that android is also adding in L. Call me jealous. Hopefully these features can be achieved through the chrome browser.

iCloud tabs

iCloud photo stream
quote:Hangouts is pretty damned similar, except once again it is cross-platform. I regularly have conversations that start on my phone, and I pick them back up seamlessly on several different computers. Also integrates cross-platform video chat.

Help me here... I honestly don't see a single thing that the 'Apple ecosystem' does better than Google's solutions. In fact, being cross-platform (usually simply requiring a web browser) is a huge, GIGANTIC plus in favor of Google's services. The entire universe of devices is part of the 'ecosystem'.

This is the part I'm confused about as well. I thought the argument was going to be about the investment in iOS apps or something.
Its very difficult to argue a closed system for contacts backup or photos and music, etc that only can be shared by another apple product is considered an advantage.
Forget android vs apple.. What about being able to access anything from anywhere?

And I'm glad you are one of the few people who don't speak like a child on this board.
You keep saying Android folks don't want to have an "honest" conversation.
But besides that point... uhhh why? It fills a very specific niche and fills it better than any device at an extremely affordable cost.

Jesus you guys are persistent. I'm glad you're so concerned about my personal tech preferences

... says the guy who started the thread, which was clearly intended to prop up Apple and knock Google down a peg.

Chrome cast sucks bro
- I can stream anything directly from the chrome browser on my laptop (a macbook pro) to my tv wirelessly.
- I can stream anything from any network site to my tv wirelessly.
- I can stream anything illegally to my tv wirelessly.
- I have been watching the world cup via WatchESPN app initiated from my phone, streamed to my tv wirelessly.
- Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, Youtube, Plex, etc.
All of this does not even consider the developer apps like LocalCast and PhotoCast and a ton of others.
The chromecast only sucks if you don't know how to use it. I found myself wishing I had brought it on vacation with me a few weeks back.

Nearly all of my threads are Apple related considering that's my preference. It's the android folks who always come in unnecessarily. This is a rare thread for me bc I'm tired of the bickering

Agreed.

Also, agreed. I had an iPod I liked, too.
However, iTunes has always been the dealbreaker for me - perhaps if I had already been at iOS or Mac (or whatever they have), but those early iterations of iTunes for Windows were G-dawful. I was able to manage my 3G with Winamp, for the most part - but eventually I had to choose between iTune and Android - literally took less than 1 second to decide.

I have no idea why people have such a problem with iTunes. It did suck early on but it's been vastly improved.
Not to mention you don't even really need the desktop version these days for the most part

Considering that's only one aspect and not even one that's required not sure how that's the same thing.
Again, I've never stated it hasn't gotten better. But I have absolutely no reason to switch.

No, it didn't suck early on. It's a resource hog on windows if you have even a mediocre sized library. On Mac it works as expected.

I haven't used iTunes for my iPhone in 2 years.

Google music consists of a 2mb app you install on your pc that takes roughly 15 seconds to install that basically gives you a ui to choose which directories of music you want to sync to cloud.
22,000 of your personal mp3s and flac files available anywhere anytime free.
Last time I had to install iTunes on a PC to set up my wife's old iPhone it was a 45 minute ordeal which included about 14 other apple apps i neither wanted yet had no choice.
