Yep. He doesn't understand clock management either....

Well Jeremy Pruitt coaches where now? It wasn't so great a job when they were trying to retain him....

I'm not going to put any stock into a stat that you yourself won't bother to vet. You can keep posting it all you like....

re: Is Yadier Molina a HOF Catcher? - therick711
Yes it is. What you keep describing is a flaw that exists across all catchers who are rated. Sandy Alomar, for example, isn't given credit for his framing and leadership and all of the other stuff that we are told should inflate Molina's value. ...
He also has half the gold gloves of molina in the same amount of time.
Matheny has a lot of gold gloves, too. His advanced stats don't appear to justify that reputation. I don't put a whole lot of stock in gold gloves. Others are free to put as much stock as they like in it....

re: Is Yadier Molina a HOF Catcher? - therick711
Wut?
The WAR of the other catchers in the hall is similarly undervalued. So the gap he has to make up widens. He isn't 2.5 times better than Sandy Alomar at intangible or unquantifiable things such that they are remotely the same in terms of value....
but as good as Charles Johnson was a defender, he's not on the same tier as Molina.
That's ridiculous....

If Charles Johnson isn't a hall of famer, I think Yadi fails for the same reasons....

re: Is Yadier Molina a HOF Catcher? - therick711
WAR leaves a lot out when measuring a catcher's contribution. Fangraphs ever admits that "catcher WAR is probably the least precise of all of the positions."
That actually widens the gap between him an the other catchers in the hall, it doesn't shrink it despite what people think...

re: Is Yadier Molina a HOF Catcher? - therick711
I don't know about Molina in the HoF, but I do believe he may be underrated by WAR. WAR doesn't take into account pitch framing or calling a game/managing a staff. Two things Molina supposedly excels at.
One thing the Hall of Fame loves is people who are good at subjective and ver...

Joe Mauer has a 50 WAR, which is close to HOF average. Not sure I understand that comment either....
He's the best catcher of his generation
He's barely the best catcher in his family. Just kidding. He's the finest Molina. Not sure that's HOF-worthy, though....

re: If baseball was a new sport what would you do different? - therick711
I say you get 2 pitchers per game you can use and for every extra one you put in you forfeit a run. Way too much time being wasted. If game goes extra innings there would be an exception.
I would add to this that you don't lose a run if your additional pitcher is already in the ...

re: Interesting question on Herman on college sports nation - therick711
Is the past year and a half due to how good Herman is, or how good Greg Ward Jr is?
The guy found three competent quarterbacks at tOSU and one at Houston. That's three more than LSU has had over that time period....

re: Anyone else rooting for Ed O to get the job if we don't land Herman? - therick711
That's like saying if we can't get Brees or Manning, I'll take Patrick Ramsay. Why skip over Rodgers or Brady to go straight to the local guy that won stuff that didn't matter and doesn't have the right qualifications for the job?...

Hiring Coach O would be the equivalent of hiring Kevin Steele two years ago. The only difference is people like Coach O because he's a character....
