Yes it is, I understand they have to wait 24- 48 hours before A missing persons report can be filed and acted upon, but the common courtesy of having a unit ride by where he is known to of parked and see if his truck is there?

Grand Isle needs to remember how much money is brought there by anglers

They have to be aware that the window is VERY small for a ocean rescue, so it's really sickening that they would pass it to another department before doing a damn thing. frick those guys

If this is true, I hope that it is brought to light and heads roll and/or the policy is changed.

How the hell can GI PD sit there and say they can't help!!? That's bullshite of you ask me

If I had a problem on the beach in Grand Isle, I'd call the GI PD. If the problem is on the water, I'm calling the Coast Guard.

This. Only problem is they didn't know if the guy was still there, or not. GIPD should have driven to see if his truck was there, and since it was should have contacted coast guard immediately. The guy did the right thing telling his buddy where he was going and his return date. GIPD screwed this up bad. The friend should have called Coast Guard when he saw his truck though not the Frickin ascension parish pd

GI PD is in the business of writing speeding tickets. Why didn't he call the marina? I'm sure they would have checked the parking lot for his car.

All that said, if that was my friend or family, I'm in the car on my way to GI at the first hint of trouble, and on the phone with the Coast Guard.

FYI kayakers

The coastal parish sheriff's departments have water resources to do search and rescue. Terrebone parish sheriff's department has bailed out my family more than once. Let your family and friends know this.

My understanding is that this is wrong. The ball started rolling once the truck was found. The problem was that the friend had to drive from Ascension to GI and see the truck before that started.

Ascension was called directly after the inital call to GIPD. GI told him to call Ascension, Ascension told him there was little they could do for 24 hours for a missing person's report and recomended that he try to locate the truck to speed up the process.

IA person in a kayak would not be easily spotted from a rig. We had a semi submerged sail boat run into our rig on e and it wasn't noticed until it was about to hit us. A kayak on the open water would easily be missed.

You would think he would have his PFD on if he was climbing onto a rig, but maybe not. Still holding out hope that an old marine still has it.

This would be starting the 5th day?

Hope a miracle happens and they find him. Why would the PFD be not on him.
