re: Bear problem - Nodust
As for other problems like rummaging through your barn, eating the seats of your 4-wheelers, drinking your anti freeze, etc.....welcome to having bears. Probably better learn to adjust.
Giant raccoons aren't fun to deal with. ...

re: Need some camping advice - Nodust
I don't think a thief would be an issue. Chimpmunks and squirrels may be the biggest issue a little salt or food in the tent and they may drill through the sides. Windstorms could also cause an issue if left unattended. I wouldn't really worry about either though. Just make sure food is put up ...

re: What was the last place in Louisiana to obtain electricity and running water? - Nodust
what you mean by "running water". Many of the rural parishes have an antiquated system of regional water districts. Some are in great shape, others are almost bankrupt and don't have enough money to make repairs or extend lines. If you are in one of these areas the best bet for clean, potable...

re: Handheld GPS - Nodust
Give the app "Avenza Maps" a try. It is a PDF/gps overlay mapping app that lets you use a ton of free or really cheap PDF map files from the map store on your phone.
I've made maps on Caltopo and used with this app. Let's me customize trails and points I want. Also can use USGS maps...

re: Leaving for Colorado tomorrow to go elk hunting for 2 weeks. - Nodust
The elk were just starting to bugle last week. Heard a few around Copper mountain up high on the mountain. A friend hiking in southern Colorado said they could hardly sleep in the tent with all the bulls making noise. Good luck. ...

re: Handheld GPS - Nodust
I thought they had to have cell signal for the GPS to work.
Nope. 12 days in Colorado last month. Phone stayed on airplane mode. My mapping apps worked as good as Inreach GPS. I wouldn't carry the Inreach other than satellite texting. ...

re: Camping - Boy Scouts - Nodust
We had best luck with a couple cheap Coleman tents. Each lasted about 6 years camping once or more a month. Cheap and they were the easy to setup. Never got wet in them. We did spray with sealer once a year though. ...

re: Huge Columbia River Gorge wildfire caused by a teen throwing fireworks into the forest - Nodust
..if they find the kid that did it not much will come of it. The guy who started the Boles Fire in Weed, CA a few years back got off with only a few years.
Most likely no charges will be brought. I don't think any charges were pressed on the kids that started the Gatlinburg fire...
