re: Tax write offs for people who flooded? - tigeryat
As I understand it... If anyone had severe flood damage and had little or no insurance, they should definitely explore taking a casualty loss deduction on their tax return. Documentation will be an issue. No documentation = No tax deduction. The tax loss is the decrease in value of the home and...

re: Redfish from kayak - tigeryat
I know people fishing the pits south of Fourchon frequently and recently, and they have never been hassled by the law. The land is private and there was talk of the owner having people arrested for trespassing a couple of years ago, but that is not happening now. Unless you know something I don'...

re: help with making a roux - tigeryat

You will set off the smoke detector in your kitchen and you will think you are going to burn it, and th...

re: Large oak tree planter/seller? - tigeryat
I planted one live oak in my yard a few years ago, and I got it from Native Sun. It was a 3" tree, they planted it and guaranteed the tree for a year. It cost the better part of $1000. The tree looks great today. The diameter has probably increased 2 inches since planting and its maybe 5 feet ta...

re: Re season a Dutch oven - tigeryat
The "clean oven" method gets your pots very hot and there is a risk of warping. If the pot is an antique or family heirloom, I would use another method. Chemical oven cleaners will work also, it just takes a little elbow grease. Electrolysis method works too, with little scrubbing. Below is a l...

re: My roasts won't fall apart. - tigeryat
Sometimes you just get a bad cut of meat and it will never get tender. I usually buy choice. 4-5 hours at 250-300 should do it. I cook a chuck or shoulder several times a month. It's always falling apart. I did a whole pork picnic like this last weekend and it was falling off the bone. ...
