I'm old enough to get what I want.
I am the same way. I buy wayyyy too many cars and I never NEED a new car. I want exactly what I want. If I have to pay a bit more or travel a bit to get it then I do. Cars are definitely my vice. No boat, rv, camp or any of that but a fleet of cars in the driveway LOL.

Yeah I'm probably going to have to make some suspension mods in the rear, but I'll wait and see, I've put more than that to the ground on stock suspension before but it was a car and it transfered weight better and faster so we'll see

Holdback is 3% on Fords. If you finance with Ford and wait 90 days to refi they get a commission and they get a commission on warranty. If they won't dip into that 3% find another dealer.

Don't get me wrong, I like folks like that who pay sticker or above. They are actually my car buying hero's.

I don't know why.

It doesn't affect what you pay at all.

Every dealer looks at every transaction as a unique deal. They will try to extract the maximum from you, no matter what I paid last week. It's not like I'm paying MSRP for the same plain, white Tundra you're buying.

Plus, my deals usually cost them more, as they have to make a deal with another dealer and/or pay to have the vehicle brought in.

You will always have more room to negotiate and I never will.

Don't fool yourself, they absolutely try to squeeze every dime out of every customer, but they know if they make bank on one consumer, they can afford to discount to another whom they want to sell a vehicle to as well, who won't pay MSRP or above.

You can make a deal on ANY mainstream vehicle, if you are patient and pit dealers against each other. It does require time and effort, which I understand a lot of people would rather pay sticker and drive on off the lot. I'm happy with that for them, makes my car buying experience easier.

Not wanting to put in the time and effort is NOT why we are paying sticker, it's because the vehicles are unique enough, for whatever reason, that there is no other option at the time to get exactly what we want.

So do you just walk in and tell them I'm paying no more than X amount of $? if they don't agree you walk? I've never bought from a dealer.

I think it's funny that devoted Toyota fans allow this to be done to them. I see it all the time here.

I paid like 5k under what they were asking for my Tundra

This is a relatively new thing-discounting on Tundra's.

Nobody on the planet is getting any huge deal on a Tacoma, though.

As a former internet manager, Truecar is absolutely the easiest way to buy a car for a customer and a dealership. Truecar usually quotes at 300-500 over invoice for the record, and that is a deal a dealership will take all day. My only issue with Truecar is it is fairly inaccurate on vehicle adds, and undershoots the MSRP of the built vehicle by 300-500$ because of regional and factory adds (i.e. floor mats for Toyota).

For the record, dealer holdback is 2-3% of MSRP depending on the brand. As an employee, I paid invoice price for all the vehicles I purchased. Everyone that wants to pay invoice minus holdback, good luck. Better go find one that has been sitting on their lot for hundreds of days where the salespeople have been sleeping and farting in for half a year. That, or be one of the lucky people that buy at the end of the month where the GM needs a couple more to hit his bonuses.

Also, when using Truecar put in different ZIP codes. I live on the Northshore so I would put in BR, LAF, and N.O. Zip codes. Prices are thousands of dollars of difference in some areas, try it next time.

New Orleans gets stupid with their Truecar pricing, but heavy on the bait and switch.
