I wouldn't be too worried. Out-of warranty repairs on damn near anything is crazy expensive now, but still much cheaper than buying something new.

X5 is the best-driving SUV on the market, it is very reliable. Rock-solid drivetrain, and since it's based on the 5 Series sedan, it feels more like a car, than a truck.
That said, I don't have any firsthand knowledge of the hybrid version, so I'd seek out vehicle-specific forums for current ...
