Lots of people not named Ryan Hall run all the time. Some people can handle it and some can't.

True. But when their legs give out, they rest or get eaten by a large cat.

You run 7 days a week? (Of course you do). What would a typical pace for you be?

Sounds like it could be a gluteus minimus injury. It's a small muscle around the high hamstring/low glute area. Can be a real pain to stretch and can be a long term injury. Only way it heals is to rest it for an extended period of time.

Running for more than 20 miles a week isn't for fitness.

Your desire to keep running thru injury shows this to be the case.

Or maybe piriformis? Try foam rolling it out ... and sports doc I see when needed said anything that persists for 2+ weeks without any improvement should be checked out.

I know many people that log 50 or more miles a week and are past 50 years old.

Like me, for instance. I do about three runs in the 10-12 mi range and one long miler 18-22. Into my 4th year at that level, and I've had no significant injuries.

I did have a pain similar to the one you describe. It was more of an on-and-off dull ache. I improved it by stretching more, and some targeting the hips. Went a way completely after I had to skip running for a couple of weeks due to travel...

Any ideas?

I wonder if you have developed a hernia, I would have it checked out by the Doc. I have been a long distance runner and had both Inguinal surgical repairs. I walk jog now, no issues.

20 miles a week is nothing if that's the only exercise you're doing.

I know a couple of people that have run streaks of more than 3 years. With a few ultra marathons mixed in there. So 7 days a week isn't unheard of. 4-8 miles per day isn't a ton either.

I'd just take a few days off. See if that makes it any better. If not, go talk to a doc.

As someone who battles with knee pain (Iliotibial problems), take it from me, take some time off before you really frick it up.

FYI the human body is meant to be worked hard and can take a ton of stress

i read a book called "born to run" about a group in mexico that runs a marathon every day barefoot

ive heard many doctors speak to this and they say the same. the body is meant to be worked very hard and our generation is just lazy and the lack of movement makes us sore or tired when we finally do get off the couch

I run 5-6 days 5-10 miles/day. I've been dealing with a similar Injury for about 2-3 week. It'll slowly go away. I took a few days off after the initial injury in order to not further it anymore. It still gets aggravated when I run but ibuprofen certainly helps.

There's about 3 posts in this whole thread worth a shite. More than likely it's an easy fix. Try some SMR first. A roller may do the trick but I find it a little tricky to pinpoint the backside/hams with it. But the way you're describing it, I'm thinking it's the rotators. Either way, get a medicine ball or even a basketball aired up til it's very hard. Sit on the ball on the pain side, put that sides arm on the ground behind u. Bend the other leg and that foot to roll yourself around on the ball. Just search out what hurts and spend 5-10 minutes working it out. Do this often. Maybe twice a day. It may be sore after the first time or 2. If so, back off a little. Also, back off on the running until it gets fixed. Once it's all good & you start building that mileage back up, continue doing the same thing as maintenance cause odds are it'll come back. And I know you runners well...you're gonna have to back off to fix this!!! Lol

Also, if a med ball is too painful, then I'd go back to something bigger & softer, like a roller.
