People who actually have stuff going for them in the real world don’t act like clowns on their HOA board, or make a big deal out of lowering the neighborhood speed limit by 5 mph.

The crusaders against perceived crimes in our HOA is out of control. People are posting people's cars/license plates, and homes of people they say either ran a stop sign, or sped through the neigborhood, and then posting it on the facebook page. Then there are the people that think coyotes howling in the fields adjacent to the neighborhood are, in essence, either werewolves or chupacabras, waiting to snatch an unsuspecting victim.

I think that a nice rustic wooden fence like this might look nice.

I wouldn't be terribly opposed to a wrought iron fence. The shite thing is no one knows anything about this fence. The memo everyone got simply said dues are going up for a perimeter fence. No mention of the fences height, what it will enclose, what material etc.

You need to ask if the dues will go down once the fence is paid for. I doubt it will.

Highly doubtful...I live in what is probably the lowest crime area of the city. It's hardly Shreveport...I'm close to Southern Trace and all the mansions that surround it.

My folks live in Southern Trace and there has been a serious uptick in car break-ins and people snooping for packages on doorsteps. I've been busy with orders for motion lights, camera setups, and adding/replacing deadbolts out there.

This was never voted on by anyone in the neighborhood. It was just presented without explanation, and an asterisk that said that the HOA has the authority to raise dues by 6% without a vote. That may be the case, but I feel like a vote is needed to start building shite that encloses people's property

The dues thing seems like within their authority. But I think the board would have to vote on something like adding a fence around the property. Was the board elected by the residents or were they appointed by the developer?

It sounds like it caught enough of you off-guard to warrant asking for a meeting to discuss this issue. If everyone is more concerned about what type of fence is going in and not the actual idea of one, you may be a lot closer to coming to a peaceful resolution than you think.

What happens when they mow those trees down and start another subdivision? I bet you’ll welcome a fence.

I'm the only one who has an issue with the fence itself. Most are pissed that they have to pay for fence after they paid for a fence themselves. One guy who has been there since 2006 is livid, because he moved into a house with no fence, paid to have a fence put up, and now he is being charged to have a fence possibly put around that fence. The whole thing is asinine.

I've seen the hate for HOAs here for awhile, but as of yesterday I get it. Got a letter that our dues are going up slightly... that's fine...to put up a new perimeter fence around the subdivision...WTF?!?
What's really going to suck is when they clear a 30' r/w to build the fence.

yeah I would suggest maybe a gated fence at entry (for car traffic), but its stupid to me that they would require you to fence in your back yard if you do not want it done.

Yeah, I generally feel the same way, but even when you're surrounded by people with money you still get some of them doing dumb or inconsiderate things.

I lean towards very little regulation here, but still some level of regulation. I certainly don't think an HOA should be able to decide that one must build a fence on their property.

if you don't keep up your lawn or do trashy shite, there are parish violations, and people would definitely report you to the parish
