I definitely thought this was going to be about, being forced to take that bird house down.

It absolutely will.

Someone painting their house weird colors will be seen by potential buyers (who actually determine your property's value) as trashy/stupid and will assume that trashy/stupid people live nearby and will look elsewhere for a house.

On the flip side, a home being in an HOA is an immediate "no buy" for me.

frick having some busybody HOA determining what I do with my property.

Many areas where you have next to no choice and where everything is HOA

I've never had that problem anywhere I've lived. It also helps that I avoid new construction.

You really need to buy the property you are looking st if you want to keep cookie cutter, mortgaged-to-the-hilt, shacks from being built there and screwing up your view.

That was us to an extent. There are good neighborhoods that aren't HOA, but Shreveport is so checkerboard that I really wouldn't have been comfortable buying in any of them. There were a few out here that weren't HOA, but they were all houses from the 60's that would have required a crap ton of reno.

So for a move-in ready house that's not 2 streets over from the ghetto... it's gonna be HOA

It really depends man. I absolutely would want one in a "starter home" community which typically evolves into a rental community as it ages. HOA's keep landlords investing in the properties.

Jesus H Christ you have some passionate misconceptions about HOAs. Either that or you're paranoid and have issues with authority.

Oh, you haven’t lived until your HOA is taken over by one of the sleaziest shysters in town. He just wants to help.

Howdy neighbor! I live about 5 houses down from you. I saw this post and thought it was funny considering I was just reading an argument on our HOA Facebook page. I saw the photo and realized it was the same picture.

Your woods view looks slightly better than mine though. I swear the woods behind me look more like a swamp than anything else due to constant standing water.
