Dunno why almost every poster on the OT tries to make this shite so complicated. its pretty simple

1) follow iifym

2) combine with some form of IF so you don't have to eat bird meals

3)lift heavy shite and put it down 3 or 4 times a week including squats and deads

4) when in the fasted state move around a lot

not that complicated

Also if you browse facebook on a regular basis search out and like as many fitness/diet related pages as possible. You will get great tips, recipes, workouts etc on a daily basis and it will help you stay motivated. You can also find a lot of great information on the bodybuilding.com weight loss message boards.

Oh I totally agree with you there, it's just that from a practical point of view, for most people it is much more difficult to burn 100 calories (jogging/walking a mile, say) than it is to cut 100 calories out of their diet (skipping a single coke).

I get you and I agree. I guess I was looking at things from an "everything being optimal" standpoint.
If people casually want to drop pounds the simplest thing they can do is limit themselves to three meals, no more than one plate per meal, and drop all sugar drinks. I know someone who lost close to 70 lbs over two years doing this. Didn't come off over night but they didn't make any drastic changes to their diet. Still ate "poorly" but controlled the portions.

No Carbonated beverages for a start. Limit the startches. Eat lean meats in small portions. Eat lots of fruits. Cut out all snack foods until you reach your desired weight, then eat a big twinky.

I disagree. Training has a bigger influence on your body composition than diet. I'm not diminishing the importance of a proper diet but hard training can make up for a lot of diet missteps.

They go hand in hand, but when it comes to weight loss (not body recomp, but straight weight loss), diet > exercise. It's much easier to be in a caloric deficit by eating less than it is by exercising more.

I learned one simple rule:

Put the food in your mouth and if it tastes good then spit it out!

To lose weight eliminate sugar and all processed foods. Eat food that is as close to it's natural state as you can.

DO NOT skip eating for more than 4 hours. Eat every 2-3 hours. DO NOT eat until you are full. Eat just enough that you will feel satisfied 20 minutes after eating. Learn what that feels like.

Learn what hunger pangs really are. Once you get over the sugar cravings which are the worst you will find that hunger pangs are really nothing. BUT, eat as soon as you feel the hunger pangs. If you don't you will most likely over-do eating because of it.

BE SURE to eat enough of protein and all the things that make a balanced diet. Eat a varied diet. Don't eat the same thing all of the time. It takes some work to do this but it's worth it.

Once you master this - it takes patience and persistence - your body will start to eliminate the excess fat that you are carrying. It may take up to 5 weeks for your body to recognize that it no longer needs to carry that extra fat because food is always coming when it needs it. The longer you go without screwing up the more you will lose.

It may sound complicated but once you do it it's really simple and very easy to do. The whole idea is to de-stress your body. Flooding your body with massive amounts of simple carbohydrates, over-eating, going too long without eating, smoking, drinking alcohol and over-stimulating your brain causes stress on your system. Stop doing those things along with MODERATE exercise and you'll be shocked how much and how quickly you'll lose the fat. I recommend pilates or yoga for the exercise. Start slow and just learn the moves. These exercises are good because they don't involve any impact.

If you DO screw up just continue on with the program like nothing happened just don't make a habit of screwing up while you are trying to lose weight. It will set you back a little and delay the weight loss but you will eventually get back in that zone where you are losing fat every day.

Do MODERATE exercise. DO NOT over do it. The idea is to de-stress your body and yourself. So stop watching TV everyday. Stop watching the news and current events shows. Watch your favorite sports shows or Science Channel, Discovery or stuff like that.

Once you get to your desired weight you can continue the lifestyle with occasional deviation. Instead of eliminating sugar and processed foods you can maintain by AVOIDING these foods and the rest of the time eating like you've learned to do while you were in weight-loss mode. When you need to drop a few pounds then go back to eliminating the sugar and processed foods until you get back to where you want to be.

Just NEVER get back to stuffing yourself and stay active and you probably won't start to gain it back. But if you do you know what to do about it.

No way! If you want to lose weight, you need to cut out the junk food, like fruits and vegetables.

Get on the Ketogenic diet man. I did. It's easy once you get away from the sugar/carbs. No exercise necessary.

Ketogenic FAQ

quote:

One of my issues is I work nightshift. Plant work. I don't eat at work so I get home and eat then I'm sleepy been up all night working. Fall asleep right after I just ate. This happens everyday. It's not good.
Not that bad either unless you're taking in carbs/sugars. Get your body off of carbs (less than 20g per day) and it will transition to burn fat stored in cells. Eat foods high in fat like butter, coconut oil, meaty fats, etc. Moderate protein (too much protein gets converted and stored as fat in cells).

This is good advice...

This is not...

quote:

Do MODERATE exercise. DO NOT over do it. The idea is to de-stress your body and yourself.

And not needed..

quote:

DO NOT skip eating for more than 4 hours. Eat every 2-3 hours
