It was a joke b/c that line is always thrown out there. "I know several successful people that smoke weed."
In my circle, which is mostly software people, I've definitely met successful individuals who smoke pot.

I also disagree with previous comments that a lot of us drink for the taste, not for the buzz.

When was the last time you saw non-alcoholic beer in anybody's refrigerator? Around here you'd better have a damned good excuse for keeping that stuff around.

so rather than believe that a lot of smokers are indeed very productive and successful, people would rather just call it a cliche "line"?

You're reading too much into it. I'm really not even trying to disagree with you but that is one of the most cliched line.

I know, I'm just asking about that line of thinking really. people seem to be quick to call that a cliche line instead of actually considering that multiple people know separate individuals who smoke weed and are also successful and productive.

That you think anyone who smokes pot is automatically a non-productive worker is laughable.

Not once anywhere on here did I say a pot smoker could not be productive. All I have put up here is the fact you can and will be terminated by most companies for testing positive. The responses I have received tell me there are lots of people that would rather use pot than keep a 6 figure job. I have no issue with that- its your choice.

There are plenty of people I know that smoke pot and have a 6 figure job. If you're referring to a business owner firing a valued employee for marijuana use only, then I would say that business owner is an idiot.
