re: Boat or pool, bigger money pit? - austintigerdad
Get a hot tub
We bought a hot tub for our previous house. We used it like crazy for about two months. After that, it got used rarely, primarily by visiting family. You haven't lived until you've cleaned the in-law's jizz from a hot tub filter. :yack:...

re: Boat or pool, bigger money pit? - austintigerdad
I have 4 kids. Pool gets more use
A key to the decision might be the age of your kids. Mine seemed to use the pool more before they got into middle school. After that the pool seemed like a waste of money....

re: Boat or pool, bigger money pit? - austintigerdad
I think the bigger question is whether you personally will use the boat or pool more. I've had two houses with pools that hardly ever got used. Our current house has a boat slip. I get out on that boat as often as I can. Being out on the water hooked me like a drug....

re: Best website to create your own website? - austintigerdad
If you want to accept credit card payments, you will most likely need to be PCI compliant.
PCI compliance is only a concern if your shopping cart stores payment card numbers. The vast majority of small to medium sized online stores don't do this. Probably the easiest way to accept ...

re: Is Anyone On Google Fi Yet? - austintigerdad
So far the best feature of Project Fi is the Nexus 6 phone with the latest Android build, and without all of the bloatware my old carrier used to run on their phone. SMS messages on Project Fi consistently appear in under 10 seconds, while my old Sprint phone could take hours. This is a big deal...

re: Curved Displays. Legit or Gimmick? - austintigerdad
I'd define "gimmick" as a feature that will be effectively dead a few years after it's launched, like [link=(http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/consumer-electronics/audiovideo/3d-tv-is-officially-dead-for-now-and-this-is-why-it-failed)]3-D TV[/link]. I'm guessing curved displays are a gimmick. ...

re: Question about Gmail security - austintigerdad
So in plain English...is that identical to them having your password?
I'd expect that the Google admin logins that can assess private user data have multi-factor authentication, and there's a logging and reporting mechanism to tell management "who saw what, when." So while email is ...
Google knows your password
I'd be shocked if Gmail stores anyone's password. I suspect that Google stores your [link=(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_(cryptography))]salted password hash[/link] that allows them to verify the password without ever saving it. ETA: darn, beat me ...
stealing an account or Google
This has been discussed here before, but it's crazy not to enable free [link=(https://www.google.com/landing/2step/)]Google 2-Step Verification[/link] on your Gmail account. This eliminates nearly all potential to hijack the account, and you'll never...

re: British Glamour Model Gets Drunk With Pilot During Flight To NYC - austintigerdad
Kuwait Airways
A family member who flies for a different middle eastern carrier told me about an almost identical incident a few years back. A hottie was photographed in the pilot's seat during flight. The pilot's identity was discovered, but because he's a native Bedouin and not...
How do you guys like the coverage so far?
A nice surprise with Project Fi - or maybe it's the Nexus 6 phone - is the vastly improved voice quality over our home WiFi network. Callers have already remarked how surprisingly clear my voice sounds now. This might give us the option...

re: Is Anyone On Google Fi Yet? - austintigerdad
How do you guys like the coverage so far? This is a mix of Sprint and Tmob towers, is that correct? I'm on TMob now and mostly have no complaints about coverage but once in a while I do so I'm thinking having the extra towers from Sprint could pay off. Although, I like my Note Edge so I would...

re: Is Anyone On Google Fi Yet? - austintigerdad
My Project Fi invite appeared a week ago, when my status still showed 'Expect your invite in 3-4 weeks.' The Project Fi starter kit arrived by FedEx 3 business days after I ordered. I bought the Nexus 6 separately on the Google Store to get the 64 GB version, and it arrived a day later. The P...

re: Someone give me background on Bernie Sanders and explain his popularity - austintigerdad
I was a teenager growing up in Vermont when Bernie Sanders first ran for governor there in the 1970's. I used to laugh at the guy, positive that nobody with that brash style and Brooklyn accent was never going to win an election in my state. Fast forward 40 years and it seems like even my cons...

re: Is Anyone On Google Fi Yet? - austintigerdad
Google sort of implies this, but your wait time for an invite seems to depend a lot on where you live in the US. A family member in Vermont got his invite a couple of weeks after sending his request. Here in central Texas my wait time looks like it could be 5 months following my April reques...
