re: Question on Pension rollover - agdoctor
Usually held until you retire. I have been employed by 2 different companies that I left years ago and both recently offered me a lump sum if I wanted. I rolled both into a rollover IRA. It would have been better if I couod have rolled them into my 401k plan but our plan wouldn't allow it. Not sure ...

re: Recommendations For Dogs That Boo Boo A Lot? - agdoctor
We use Lone Star premium 24% protein. Solves that problem. About $30 for 50lbs. We have had as many as 80 hounds at a time. If you use crap like ole Roy or pedigree they crap 100lbs for every 50 lbs you feed ...

Been married 36 years with joint everything. Only thing I would suggest is to have some spending money separate. We don't really have a problem because of reimbursed expenses that end being personal spending accounts ...

re: Rolling Over a 401K - agdoctor
I wouldn't say always. If you roll it over to a tIRA, you can screw yourself on backdoor roth at a later date.
This is huge if you make too much to go directly into a Roth. I would roll it into new employers plan or leave it where it is if the fund choices are good....

re: side question on car insurance - agdoctor
Depends on the insurance company. I have repairs there were not my fault and premium didn't change. I no other people that have. My advice is if repairs aren't much over the deductible to pay for it yourself. If they are file a claim that's why you buy it. Oh and figure out the money part without th...

re: Company offers both traditional and Roth 401k. What should my mix be? - agdoctor
Biggest known is in the traditional you pay no taxes now but will in the future. The Roth you pay now and none in future unless of course they change the law which they could. There have been grumblings on taxing people that have saved too much- like $3m- in 401k plans. I would never assume a Roth w...

re: Which fund would you select? - agdoctor
I have had Blue Chip fir years in a taxable account. In my opinion it's basically a tax manged S&P500 index fund. It follows the index pretty close but the manger sells off some losers so the tax hit isn't too bad. In an IRA that wouldn't matter and you might look at something that pays more in divi...
