I was 48, wife was 45 when we married back in 2000. Cost was a little under $500.

The actual ceremony was only about a grand and tipping the pastor. The rest was spent on our reception, photographers, etc.

1982. A little less than $500.
Baptist church wedding. Cake reception afterwards. My wife (no pics, she's 58 now) wore same dress her two sisters wore.

Most expensive thing was the pictures, $300. We were both in college and it took me two years to pay for them. Haven't seen them in 30 years. Guess there are still around somewhere.

Our two daughter's weddings were around $15k each with us doing the majority of the work and prep. Was told they would be about $40k if we had hired a contractor. Dang.

Still married btw. I surely outkicked my coverage.

Our goal was to keep it around $15k, but all in all we are probably somewhere in the $20k to $22k range. This was 2015 and we had somewhere between 90 and 100 people actually show up.

The venue ($4k) was paid for by my in-laws and the rehearsal dinner was paid for by my parents, but other than that we paid for everything ourselves.

We ponied up for the things that were important to us and cut corners where we could.

For example, our caterer was amazing and we happily paid for it and since about 60% of our guests were coming from out of town, we hired transportation from hotel to venue and back for everyone staying at the hotel.

But our wedding cake was not important to us, so we got a cut cake and cupcakes from Publix
Our flowers were done very minimally by a friend and we bought all our booze (minus the wine as we got married at a vineyard) wholesale through another friend.

Was it a responsible way to spend $20k? Of course not.

But I have no regrets and would relive that day every day if I could. We still have friends tell us ours was the most fun wedding they've ever attended.

Getting married next April... probably going to run us about 10K when all said and done. The people with venues got it figured out.. we are paying 4,500 just to rent the venue and we have to do all the setup of everything.

If you're paying 4500 for a venue, I don't see how you can make out under 10k.

Dress, caterer, photos, dj, booze, flowers, rings, rehearsal dinner.

That shite adds up fast.

Getting lucky with photographer. A family member volunteered very cheap but shes really good too. Didnt include dress or rings. That will be a pain in the arse.

$20k, 1986.

We did take a ridiculous honeymoon trip. My wife's parents owned a travel agency. It was 19 days and covered Papeete, Bora Bora, Moorea, Fiji, a Blue Lagoons cruise in the Yasawa islands and a week in Maui at the end of the trip.

First wedding my ex-FNL said he had a budget of $25,000, whatever wasn't spent he would handover to us. My ex-wife spent every dollar plus more. Divorced about a year and a half later.

Second wedding 16 years later we spent a total of $6,000 including wedding dress and it was one of the best days of our lives. We were surrounded by about 30 friends and family and there was no stress at all.

65k, 2012

Outdoor wedding at an antebellum home with the reception at the local convention center. Rented out entire center, had a live band, and had an open bar (any kind of drink, not just wine and beer) for about 200 people.

Some of you will be like "should've taken the money and put it in a house". Well I asked inlaws about that and they said that it wasn't going to happen. We were getting that wedding no matter what.

Sister 1 was about 40k, about same as us but had a cheaper venue.

Sister 2 was about 250k, Husband is owner of a large company and big time in politics and had senators and the governor at the wedding.

Brother, eloped.

You married one of those, eh..

One of those... women that didn’t come with debt attached. Her parents paid for the entire wedding. I paid for the rehearsal dinner. We didn’t go crazy—had a 100 person destination wedding. They probably spent $75k total. Her sister spent $150k and had the country club ordeal. Whatever, not my fricking money and they were great weddings.

Not sure how this is possible unless you only had like 50 people. LOL

Closer to 150......shreveport is a really cheap place to get married as long as your smart about it. Whole thing was downtown too. Used the smaller chapel attached to the big church which saved a ton and the masonic lodge is beautiful and if I remember under $2,000 to rent for the whole day. Most expensive component was the open bar

ETA: We didn't have a florist or wedding planner. MIL is crafty and handmade alot of the decorations and the photographer was a wedding vet and kept the whole day moving

$50k total, 2014. Even though we had an absolute blast, hindsight is 20/20. Could've used that money to fly out someplace exotic with family and close friends, or even better, did JOTP and saved that $50k.

But that was her mom's last hoorah before she passed shortly after. She was even buried in the gown she wore for the wedding, so it ended up being worth it in that regard.

There was probably a lot of that done over a 19 day honeymoon.
