Going down to the courthouse costs some gas money I suppose. A ceremony, no thanks. We will throw a party without all of the BS. Because we don’t want it. And are old enough not to be pressured in to it.

Have you been married before Liz? Or just been with enough married men to know what it’s like?

2018. $120k.

Whoever paid for that was a dumbass. Along with all involved that allowed it.

I got off relatively cheap compared to what I know some of my friends and family paid.

Ours was just under $19k in 2011. And I'm still pissed about it to this day.
I tried my hardest to convince her to have a bare bones ceremony. But we also got lucky in not having to pay for an expensive venue too.

Anyone who spends any inordinate amout of money on a “party” is a fool. We eloped almost 22 years ago, put the money we would have spent on the wedding into our first home and just paid off our second home last year.

Who cares if you have the money to spend. This is akin to people who complain about others buying $80k trucks…

Agree.

To each his own in regards to this debate, but some families really enjoy having a big wedding with lots of family and friends and want it done right.
No shame if someone wants to pay for it.

My FIL gave us the money for us to invest instead of a pointless virtue signaling wedding

ETA: Was the wife who was adamant about not having a big wedding.
