After just starting to find myself in MT now, after reading alot about Mint and budgets, what has Mint helped you accomplish? Just trying to gauge whether it can help me or not. My wife and I for the most part, only buy necessities. Of course, as normal the only thing I can only think we blow a little extra money on is eating out. Just recently we only try to go out once, maybe twice a week. So im just curious in this adventure we may take in. Has Mint helped you notice other spendings that you shouldnt be and what has it helped you do the most of?

Not much. I pretty much only use it to check my retirement account balances so I don't have to log into each one individually.

I don't like the way it tries to make you track your budget so I just do it in excel.

Agreed. And I use irregular bonuses to contribute toward my savings goals but it only allows you to budget your savings in straight line contributions. So ever month it tells me I'm missing my savings goals.

Kinda convenient to be able to review all balances and transactions in one place.

The budgeting is nice, but you have to stay on top of it. I'll review things like net income, and use it to track my net worth.

Everything's in one place, helps track expenses for certain things. I use the tags a bunch.

Easy to separate out the rental stuff, hunting stuff, extracurriculars, etc..

Easy to show my wife how much she spends eating out.

I think if you use it correctly for several months, you develop a baseline. At that point, you can look for outliers and places you can cut back and save a little extra monthly.

Also, if you're able to link your retirement and bank accounts, you can track your net worth which should provide some enjoyment.

Couldn't you set it to carry over from the previous month (+/-)? I know you can do this with individual budget categories, not sure if it's the same with established savings goals.

It helps me keep track of all my accounts easily without logging into them all individually. It keeps me up to date with my property value.

I like tracking my net worth. It's like a game/challenge to see how quickly I can make it grow. I just find myself being more frugal in general because of this.

It has helped bring visibility to what my family spends money on and where we need to cut back. It's the easiest way to put a value on what we are buying and all of the accounts are in one place.

Definitely what the spending problem is. Moreover, I realize that I am overspending more quickly.

Controlling your spending is something. That you have to do yourself, but this gives you the map.

Do yall consider Mint safe to use?

I've always been uneasy about linking all my accounts to a third party site. I've always wanted to use Mint.

I still use a spreadsheet for the most part bc mint is unable to connect to a few of my accounts (GMFS and Sofi). But it is a great tool to track your spending with.

Mint Bills has helped me way more. It used to be called something else I can't remember, but Mint bought it out.

Still waiting on predictive cash flow.

It's a toy not a necessity but I loved it way back on Microsoft Money, even though I had maybe 5k to my name

Puts everything in one place.
Let's me track spending by category
Remind me when bills are due
Let's me track the change in my net worth over time
^^I check this at the end of every month to see how much I actually netted. Net worth is the best indicator for my overall financial habits.

Buying/Refi-ing houses really messes with this. I end up letting my credit cards roll up during the process, so my checking account will shoot up about 8k in a month. Mint locks in after the month of course, then I pay into escrow and pay off my CCs and I drop 15k overnight

If GMFS mortgage, Cenlar bank. No idea what Sofi is.

As for security, I haven't had any issues. And it doesn't access the accounts, just read-only data. It does have passwords though. However, many of my accounts (notably capital one) have switched to an access code for 3rd party financial sites. This eliminates some of the access concerns. I wish they'd all go to this method.

I started using it, all but two of my credit cards linked to it.

Is it totally free, or must you pay for certain access?
