On the other hand, I have a good friend who I'd consider to be a smart person and he sold at the low. Missed out on the entire rally in the latter half of the year.

This is why I find that its smarter to just stay invested, no matter how hard that might be on days like this. You can change strategies and sector weightings but if you go all cash you're not going to be able to time the bottom like you think you are.

Having said all of that, I think we keep going lower and I'll just continue to take my daily beatings and hopefully it will turn around at some point.

I lost about half of my net worth in 2008-2009 and ended up fine by just staying in the market and continuing to buy things on sale.

I had one stock that went bankrupt but it wasn't a huge position

I'm focusing on stocks that pay a decent dividend in 2022. I'll just accumulate more shares and wait.

My general rule is to pick some up on 10% drops, a little more on 15%, and 20% and below I load up as much as I can.

Ya I'm never in a position to do this because I'm fully invested at all times. Cash is suboptimal so it's all drag in my view the longer it sits idle.

I'm not Warren Buffett out here deploying cash due to it being my job to know when and where and to what extent I should deploy cash, so I just do it constantly.

Currently down a hefty sum from beginning of year like everyone else so WTF do I know . Net worth holding steady because housing market in growing city and continued contributions.

It seems to me that for major corrections, there usually is a capitulation, and people finally just quit watching or caring about the market. From there, the rebuilding begins. I feel that we are more in the denial stage, and have yet to throw in the towel. There's a generation of meme stock investors who have not been through this yet. Best of luck to all of you/us.

SPOT VIX at $35 this is no panic but I did just read retail is on the sidelines after selling the meltdown.

Because, for at least a year, you’ve been whining on this board like a high school girl that got felt up for the first time.

If you can’t handle the volatility, don’t invest in the stock market. And quit being a bitch, you present yourself to be a man on the OT and poli board, so do the same here.

Really no good place to stash money right now. Might as well keep buying stocks you think are cheap and hold as long as you have to.

You’d think so, but the previous two bear markets in the Nasdaq (2018 and 2020) were basically over before they happened. The speed with which things can and have turned around in modern pullbacks has been lightning quick, both up and down.

I’m riding. What else can you really do? Timing the market is folly.

Invest in the market, but also invest in your enjoyment. Some of this money that has evaporated on paper could been used for some great life experiences instead.

All of these really bad days just tell me that I need to keep buying more. Unreal the loss today on top of last week but we’ll eventually be oversold…eventually.
