You're an idiot. This is the dumbest f*ckin thing I've ever heard.

The fact that you e-mail Herb, Verge, and Alleva is beyond retarded. It's a traveling band. And it's probably quite a bit higher than 50K.

It kills me when d-bags like you rag on the AD for not bringing the band, or other pointless shite, when the AD is a self-sustaining organization. They're not taking money from the state. However, if the AD raised everyone's ticket prices by $5-$10 this board (along with you) would have an absolute meltdown.

But if you're really that concerned, and you really want to "fix the problem." Why not go around the AD? Why not just contact the students in the band and pay for their expenses and tickets to fly up there and play? You're willing to raise the money. Why bring in a middle man?

Good luck.

Providing for the athletics teams is more important than splurging on the band IMO.

So, a good compromise would be for us the fans to foot the bill to send the band to Seattle. The athletic budget remains untouched and the numerous fans that want a band in Seattle are happy. Seems like problem solved to me.

First of all, this paragraph doesn't really make much sense. Secondy, good luck finding one single post of mine complaining about ticket prices. Thirdly, why do you care? It's cool if you think trying to get the band to Seattle is silly, in a way it is, as are all of our concerns relating to a football game in any way shape or form, but if it's so unimportant to you and the "dumbest thread you've ever heard" then why even jump into the stupidity?

Some people amaze me. Everything being equal (i.e. no money concerns), there is not a single LSU fan out there, including yourself, that would choose for the band to not be at a game when the band could be at a game. Yet you jump into a conversation for the mere agenda of calling someone an idiot, when you in fact probably feel the same way as me deep down: "Yeah, I like the band being at games"

How would it be received from the fans if Tiger Band went on strike for a game, say, LaTech. Just not show up for it. Create "A Tiger Game without Tiger Band." Plus the Athletic Department could turn around and sell those 500 seats that the band uses and make some money.

L.A.T., I think you and I both how that would turn out. Response from LSU Athletic Dept. would be: "kthxbi!"

Unfortunately, they can't do that. There was a fiasco in 1987 because the busses didn't show up to take the band to Jackson for the game against Ole Miss. Band members had to carpool and there was an accident on the way there. Because of potential lawsuits, they were warned to NEVER do that again.

I was involved in that accident--no damage to my vehicle, just a tap to my rear bumper, but others got serious LSU insurance $$$. We were all smashed. More than a couple people were relieved of their duties as band members.

Note to present and future band members: When representing LSU as a member of the GBFTL, do NOT drive past a car containing FBW and LRM waving a can of Milwaukee's Best out of your window and screaming bloody murder.

Simple, to try to prevent any additional morons from jumping on your "annoy the f*ck out of the AD" bandwagon.

I'm all for the band traveling, but in all honesty, if I had to make budget cuts, it'd be the first thing to go.

Like I said, if you really want the band to go, organize it yourself. If you're already asking to pay 100% of the money, I don't understand why you'd even want to involve the AD?

Well, to begin with, the athletic department never told the public about any of this to begin with, so how would we have even known without asking the athletic department? Secondly, it appears right now that we are and will be organizing and paying for this ourselves. And lastly, seeing that the athletic department has funded and organized every away band trip for as long as we've traveled to games, they're obviously the most knowledgable people on the subject, so of course we're going to get their consent/advice/help/whatever if we do indeed raise the money to send the band.

I don't mind a different opinion, as you and I obviously have, but there is no reason for name-calling. It's not that big of an issue, and it's in the process of being fixed so that all parties end up happy. Is that such a bad thing?

Lucky, Tiger Band did go on strike years and years ago and got what they asked for. I can't remember what it was at the time but I remember it from Kappa Kappa Psi history and it was a success for the band.

The thing I don't understand is why they keep mentioning budget cuts, when the Athletic department is making more money than the year before. My ticket prices have gone up, the SEC has made more money and now the ESPN deal.

It is a very cheap excuse to use the Academic budget cuts on this issue.

The more I think about it, I don't really think the actual $$$ are the issue, but more the perception of the public if LSU is flying a pep band out to Seattle while LSU as a University is laying off people (I know, seperate issues and seperate budgets), but it still doesn't look great from a perception standpoint. And Alleva (and all ADs for that matter) are more politicians than anything, and perception is very important, understandably.

But, that said, it solves everyone's problems if the fans like ourselves who care about having the pep band there pony up the money. Then no one looks bad, and the band is at our season opener! Sounds like a win-win to me.

Sorry, Didn't read the whole thread. Any word on the cheerleaders. If we can't afford the band then those "camera whore" cheerleaders better not be making the trip on our nickle.

I'm not sure about the cheerleaders, I'll let someone else lead the Cheerleader brigade. I'm not nearly as passionate about them as I am about the band.

this is probably close to what its really about. IMO its pretty shitty if they dont try to work something out. It is short on time but If they knew this for a while it looks even worse on them and it makes LSU look cheap as frick.

allright, guys ... the LSU Tiger Band Fund paypal account is all set up and ready for donations....

I guess Tuesday we'll know for sure if we're a go, but we're just about ready to start scraping up the dollars we need to kick off the season with the Tiger Band in Seattle.

I'll keep everyone posted!

I think that is very necessary and no one will probably be charged until the minimum amount is pledged. Hell, if I get to go i'll pay for my own meals.
