I'd rather the new video boards than sending the band anywhere.

why does a tennis match need new video screens?

If you guys won't budget this in as many fans including myself believe you should have done initially when you scheduled this game in Washington,

Low blow, IMO.

How do you know it wasn't budgeted years ago when the game was first scheduled? And if they did budget it, circumstances have changed since then. His reply to you was professional and thorough and you replied with a shitty remark.

With your comment above in your response, if I were Vincent, I would not even bother to reply to your most recent message. But he's probably a better man than I am, so maybe he will respond.

You go to a lot of LSU tennis matches and swim meets?

no but I go to a lot of football, basketball and baseball games so that makes it worth it to me. They probably negotiated a better price by installing that many boards.

That's all fine and dandy, but I wasn't trying to commend them on their efforts on this particular issue. In my opinion, the circumstances that currently exist do not warrant this cut. I was trying to complain about something, this particular issue. I've sent multiple emails to them in the past praising them about particular issues. I don't discriminate. I praise when I feel something is done right and I complain/offer solutions when I feel something is being done wrong.

There's really no harm in that, actually. If the LSU Athletic Department did not have the input of the fans, things would not run as smoothly as they do. They have always solicited the input of the fans.

Plus, it's your money and the money of all of us fans that gives Herb Vincent a job. We spend a lot of money on LSU and with that, we get to complain when we aren't happy about certain things about the product we are paying for.

Yeah, I would certainly care and would have probably still sent the emails to Herb, but I probably wouldn't be leading the "Band to Seattle" brigade, lol...

I'd probably just hope someone started taking donations, give my $100, gripe to a few friends about it, and be done with it.

I have a soft spot for the band. I know many people in the band, and despite the PR that Vincent spews (which I understand because working for the AD is a political job in many ways), I know first-hand that the band in general is sometimes treated as "second class" citizens by the Athletic Department and some former coaches. The band works very hard, is a great representative of LSU, and is a huge part of the overall experience that is LSU football, and any time they get left out of something it is unfair IMO.

Like I've said before, I compare this to LSU deciding that because of budget cuts, we won't have an LSU logo sticker on the side of helmets next year. We will have just plain canary yello helmets.

i'm not going to the game, but it is unfair to the people who are. I would be pretty pissed if i would have spent $1,000+ to go and then find out LSU isn't giving the same commitment

I'm not going to the game but my parents are. That makes me sad that the band isn't going. Maybe Tigerdroppings can set up a fundraising event to get the band there?

thats pretty selfish

no one said "hey, im going to spend 1K to go to Wash only because i think the pep band will be there."

its not about LSU giving the same "commitment"...im sure if they could send some band members, they would

and yes, im sure some people enjoy tennis and swimming, and upgraded facilities in any sport is good for the sports programs as a whole. After all its call an athletic department, not the football department. Yes, football is the cash cow, but you cant totally turn your back on the other programs at the school. Again, thats being selfish. And Im shocked he even included that in his email to Mr Vincent.

I'm not going and care, I also know someone who is going and doesn't see the big deal.

I think its a shame the band can't go and I think while the fans would likely be able to restore one of these by footing the bill, there's a good chance those tickets have already been sold so it's all for not.

ETA: but you have to worry about all things, not just the band and not just football (flame away for that last comment, go ahead)

How would it be received from the fans if Tiger Band went on strike for a game, say, LaTech. Just not show up for it. Create "A Tiger Game without Tiger Band." Plus the Athletic Department could turn around and sell those 500 seats that the band uses and make some money. Since you don't consider the band to be that important, see how that goes. Some of us consider it to be such a rich part of what makes LSU football so rich in tradition that they should be there.

Lester, I see your points, and all are very valid. There are definitely two sides to this entire issue, it's certainly not black and white.

That said, referring to your comment above, they can, and they have chosen not to. Like I said, they certainly have their reasons, but it doesn't change the fact that they have decided not to send a band.

And honestly, I really don't want to get into an argument with anyone about the whole issue, because I don't know if that is even productive currently given the short time frame that we have to fix this issue ... we can talk budget later on. I just want a pep band in Seattle, and a full band at one SEC away game, and hopefully we as LSU fans working with the athletic department can make that happen.

I don't work for the athletic department, so I can't help them with their budget decisions. They make those decisions, and when they make them they are fully aware of the consequences and possible displeasure that some fans may have with those decisions. This is a particular case of my displeasure. There may be 40 other budget issues that I would agree with the athletic department on, but on this particular one, I disagree, and I think I made my point clear that I do. Overly? Probably so, but I didn't want to walk away thinking I didn't make it clear enough how unhappy I was about this.

Sell beer in the stadium! That would increase revenue to take the full band everywhere!!!
