Square root is a low end copy of Ko or Brooklyn Fare and would not last in NYC
Oh come on There are dozens of these restaurants across the US. If Square Root is a copy, the last 112 are too.

If they are true foodies, I think August is the answer for them. The combination of service, atmosphere and food/wine will impress them.

I am a HUGE Commander's fan but I have been going my whole life and think that influences my feeling on it. The times I have taken Foodie friends they were put off by the size of the place.

As far as Square Root, I agree with the above poster. I was unimpressed to say the least. Not in a snobby way, I just didn't like what I was served.

August is some very, very good chow. Enough so that I tried to take some decidedly non-foodie friends and it confused them. They still talk about it and that was over a year ago.

I was impressed w/ Revolution as one of those "wow" places in terms of quality, service and presentation but still w/ Louisiana based dishes.

Ask them what are there three favorite restaurants in nyc and paris, and then can give you an answer.

High end (Whatever that means) diing around the world tends to look and taste the same. In a place like New Orleans the gems are in discovering a unique American cuisine, not eating high end. Plus theyll love the prices

I agree. Ko became massively popular and people started copying. It just took a while to make its way to NOLA. If people regularly do tasting menus in NYC, Paris and west coast, they are not going to be wowed at all by Square Root.

this is where I'm leaning

as for favorites in NYC, I think their favorite place is Gotham. Or at least they talk about it a lot.

I'd suggest Bayona.

Coquette, La Petite, Link spots, Patois, etc... are probably the sandbox you want to play in here and not the August, Commanders genre

I kind of agree, although I think August and Commander's are first rate.

Personally? I may suggest something along the lines of:

Lilette
La Petite Grocery
Gautreau's (call ahead for sure)

Peche is great but completely different experience, imo. Plus I hope they don't mind yelling at each other during dinner.

I think I'd tend to agree with that, but I would think any out of towner would enjoy the chef's table at Commander's as that is pretty uniquely NOLA.

If you go with Peche, mention to them that in 2014 it received the James Beard Awards for (1) Best New Restaurant in the whole damned country and (2) Best Chef: South, for Chef Ryan Prewitt.

That should help cover you if they don't love it.

Do they really only have one meal? That seems to be a stretch. Perhaps they are flying a private plane and flying right back, but Id imagine they are spending a bit more time.

A good one day meal itinerary in New Orleans would be something like lunch at Coquette, mid afternoon oysters and small plates at Peche, drinks at Cure, and dinner at La Petite Grocery. Perhaps some beignets the next morning.

Link won Best Chef South for Herbsaint in 2007, got another win for his cookbook, and has been nominated for Outstanding Chef in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Per the Peche website. He is an owner and developed the restaurant concept, but I don't get the impression he works the Peche kitchen.

No, I'm sure they will have time for more than 1 meal, but I do not know their itinerary

I just know they asked for a dinner rec

Only if they're flying commercially...and clearly, they're not.
