I'm thinking about splurging on one of these bottles for New Year's Eve. Are they worth the money and as tasty as everyone says? Which is the better choice?TIA

i wouldnt spend a few hundred dollars on it. but im not super savvy with the subtle differences. i might splurge more than the cook's bubbly i usually buy, but might not.

No! Just have always been curious about trying one of them.

If you havent had one yet, you wont be able to taste the difference.

Get neither.
Instead, get Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill. Very good champagne.

Instead of one of those bottles, get two or three of either of these (or mix em):
About $50 a bottle and DAMN good. Anything more expensive than these and you're just posturing. These are the staples.

Seriously, the best bang for your buck. I have never really enjoyed champagne cheaper than this.
But, to answer your question if you're set on getting one of the two well it really depends on what you want to spend.
You can get certain DomP vintages for a good bit cheaper than Cristal. DomP has never "wowed" me, but Cristal has.
I'm no connoisseur, but that's my contribution FWIW. Also, don't waste your money.

Seriously, both of those are vastly over rated and are consumed by people far more concerned with labels than what's in the bottle. You would be far better off with Krug, Pol Roger Winston Churchill, or better yet, a grower Champagne. If you want to spend whatever Cristal or DP cost, find a Champagne at that price level and look for the letters RM printed at the bottom, or on the back of the label. This designates the wine as a grower Champagne. RM stands for Recoltant Manipulant, and it means that the grapes were grown by the winemaker rather than purchased. These are usually small production wines and the quality, particularly at the price level of Dom or Cristal, will be much greater.

Veuve for me. I have heard Cristal tastes terrible. I like Dom Perignon though, but it is not worth the money.

Is terrible, most overrated and overpriced champagne on the market.
In fact it's not even overrated.
10/10 of ten experts would probably tell you it's not very good
