We seriously bought a cab tractor just to avoid this

Yeah, cab would be nice but can’t justify the expense. Might change my mind if it happens again.

Last time I got stung this bad was early-80s, still too young to drive a car at the time. Jumped off and ran, tractor still in gear and bush hog running. Tractor was stopped a few hundred yards away by a goodly sized tree at the edge of the pasture. Small dent on front bumper, that old ford was tough as nails.

Hate these things. Drove over this nest a few weeks ago on the way to food plot on tractor, got stung 7 times before I was able to get away. Plot is less than 100 yards away and they left me alone while I tilled it. Going out one night soon with a 2 liter bottle of diesel to wipe them out but not looking forward to it.

Tip they sell fryer cleaning puck on Amazon that work well.

Had no idea that these existed until your post. I have a 6 gallon at home and a 4 gallon at the camp and for the most part i just rinse the debris out of the bottom when changing the oil. Every few years I pressure wash which I thought was as clean as I could ever get them.

These pucks are incredible, not quite back to new but pretty damn close. I'll be using every year. Thanks for posting this.

And I agree on the finish--that's the only negative thing I have to say about the cajun rv......well except maybe it could be a little easier to rinse the crud out when it's really caked up.

Just curious if you shopped around. I got a 2024 Mule Pro MX from the Bastrop dealer for $3k less than House of Cycles quoted me.

Not really. I checked McKinneys in Ruston and they were $2k higher than House of Cycles. They did knock $500 off plus I got the veteran discount.

Don't know if the speed was governed or not. Buddy who serviced mine said it was more of a lawn mower engine than a sxs engine. I had an early 2000 model for many years until a close family member ruined the engine trying to drive out of a boggy pasture. Loved that thing and would have kept if forever....did keep the wife who blew it up but wasn't very happy with her.

A winch is a no brainer if kawa offers one.
A rear roof rack to mount a winch over the bed is on my list at some point. Seems like it would come in handy not just loading deer but being able to lift implements while planting, like a drag.

Yeah, I've thought about this. Not sure how I would mount base for winch, the back windshield covers rear rack where I'd like to mount it. I've got a chain harrow that I finish my plots with and it's not easy getting it in and out of the bed. I can manage smaller deer, but anything 140+ lbs I have to climb into the bed and pull them up by hand. Busted my arse a couple of times before I perfected this technique.

A bit off topic, Kawasaki gave all affected owners of the recall a $500 oem accessory credit. I've already installed mirrors and lights, what are some things that y'all have on your side by sides that you would recommend?

Like anything, depends what you use it for. For around the camp/ deer lease, general sxs use, I think that’s a great deal and perfect for that use. For mud riding/ duck hunting, they are too heavy for most of that application. They also have fewer aftermarket products compared to can am or Polaris.

Definitely agree. If I still duck hunted there's no way I'd have gone with the fxt 1000. It's great for riding around with the family on my property, going to the deer stand, and loading up a deer after the hunt. Don't think it would do very well in the flooded fields/timber where I used to take my 4 wheeler years ago.

Not much in aftermarket accessories for sure. I looked at can-am but went with the mule because it is so convenient to swap from 4 to 2 person cab. Takes a minute to fold in the rear seat and then you have a full size bed again.

I iinstalled an led lightbar and pods, factory lighting is not the best. Ordered rocker switches/lights from Amazon and install was pretty simple. One pod looks down into the bed, and I've got three on the rear bumper that function as reverse lights. The size of this thing makes it difficult to see when backing up, particularly in the dark.

Got the 1000 FXT 1000 LE Ranch edition September of last year at House of Cycles in West Monroe. Went with the Ranch because it came with a winch and self-leveling suspension, dealer installed a rear windshield. Also, my wife preferred the look of it over the base LE model and I didn't need a lot of convincing. I'd still prefer camo/olive drab green, but it is a good looking machine. Total before all the bullshite fees and tax was around $22K. This was a good bit more than I planned on spending on a sxs,..but I'm in my mid-50s and hopefully this will be the last one I ever purchase.

Power and payload are great. I've loaded the bed and a 5x10 trailer down with firewood and pulled it easily. Top speed is listed at 67, and I can confirm that is accurate. I've only done this once just to see if it could, I normally drive around 45 on the parish roads around my hunting camp.

Negatives
Engine makes a popping noise when warmed up and driving 40+ mph. Almost sounds like a piece of pea gravel bouncing around back there. This seems to be pretty common with the Mule, it's never been a problem and more of a minor annoyance.

And then the big one, a stop sale recall was issued earlier this year and owners were directed by Kawasaki to park them until a fix was available. As I understand it, a few Mules caught on fire when starting up due to combustion issues. I continued to drive mine after I read online to wait until the fuel pump finished priming before starting the engine. Got the fix a few months ago, took a couple of hours at the dealership and think it was some programming and harness replacement.

All in all, pleased with purchase so far.

Wife and kids are heavily in favor of the St. John trip so that's what I'm looking into now. I'd like to avoid the crowds as best I can, which I am thinking means I need to get a rental to travel between stores, restaurants, beaches, etc. Any benefit to going with a travel agent? Never used one for personal travel before but this is out of my wheelhouse.

Three ideas are sounding pretty good:

Lake Tahoe/Yosemite--is a week enough time for this?

Las Vegas/Grand Canyon--is Vegas kid friendly? Thinking we would stay there a few days and spend a few days exploring the Grand Canyon area. Not sure how many days to allot for Grand Canyon. Never been there but always planned to go one day.

St John--best place to stay? Any other USVI worth considering?

Lake Tahoe is an interesting idea, never been there. Anything else within driving distance?

I've got 7 free rental days with National so could use them for the trip. Again, budget is $10-15K but I'm not opposed to spending less

What's the turnaround time on passports these days?

Also, have HHonors and IHG diamond status with around 200K points each.

Seeking vacation ideas. Wife and kids love Destin/Orange Beach/PCB but I'd like to splurge a bit on something different this year. Targeting late June but timeframe is somewhat flexible.

Budget of $10-$15K, wife and kids (14, 16) are unvaxxed, kids do not have passports. We've traveled to most Gulf Coast beaches, Myrtle Beach, Colorado, Huntington Beach, and pretty much any vacation spot within driving distance of Louisiana. Wife and kids love the beach but I'm open to anything. Any ideas given budget, passport, and vaccination status?

Claiborne Parish, 31 degrees and calm. Got my oldest daughter on gun this morning. Killed this one late yesterday evening, out making scrapes on edge of food plot full of does.

Anybody know what this animal is? Passed by camera a few minutes after a doe heading the same direction.
This is the only image I have...

Thanks. Shot a doe at 6:30, trying to do a little thinning and I've never killed one when it was snowing. Snow already gone when I took the picture.
