If this exact same scenario played out with the Penn State wrestling team, would there even be a question of whether or not they would get the death penalty?

ETA. Granted, that if this went up the chain of command, the HC and the AD probably wouldn't cover it up because the wrestling team doesn't bring in the $ or has the prestige as football, but hypothetical question for arguments sake.

If it was the wrestling team this story would have received a 1/10 of that of the coverage and not a single person would ask for the death penalty.
Is it just me or do he and LeBron both look like long last bastard offspring of a 70 year old Red Foxx?

Wasn't Bird's back pretty well shot by then? I was always under the impression that Bird was on that team more as a victory lap type deal than he was an integral piece?

I know he scored 8 points a game, for 9th on the team.

Pretty much. He was there because he and Magic helped build the NBA into a respectable nationwide league. There was no way that the greatest SF to ever take the court was going to miss the first Olympics that American pros were allowed to participate in.

As scary as the Dream Team was, can you imagine how scary the 88 team would have been if they allowed pros to go then as well?

Lebron is the only guy that would start on that Dream Team.

If by start, you mean he'd be the 2nd or third guy off the bench, then sure.

Now, death penalty for Penn State.

Sure sign of an idiot.

Britta is a better part of the show than fricking Chevy Chase.

Britta has the same 2-3 storylines in every episode. She's boring and has a reptilian-like face. Screw her and the Venezuelan mule she rode in on.

Annie and her boobs > Chevy > Troy + Abed (in the morrrrrrrrrrrrrning) > Dean Pelton > Senor Chang > Jeff > Shirley > MKW > Starburns (RIP) > Pierce's racist father > John Goodman's character > Annie's Boobs the Monkey > Britta.
Interesting. Won't happen, but interesting.

what would you suggest be done?

About what? Those who covered it up? The legal system has them now. Nothing should be done to the football program because there is nothing the NCAA has jurisdiction to do nor did they break any NCAA rules went it comes to the Sandusky case. As far as the NCAA should be concerned, this is none of their business. They have no authority in the matter and need to just move on and focus on their duties.

Lol he mad.

The simple reality is, no one in the athletic department today had anything to do with the molestations/rapes/whatever or their cover-up (that we know of) so there is no reason for the NCAA to step in. Again, what Sandusky did was despicable. The cover-up was despicable. However, the NCAA has no authority over any of that.

Like I've said several times, people are abandoning logic and reason for their emotions and feelings. This is their thought process: ZOMG FORMER COACHES MOLESTED YOUNG BOYZ AND TEH FORMAH HEED CORCH COVERED IT UPP!!! NUKE THERE FOOOOTBAL PROGAM FRUM OREBITS!!!

Damn shame.
quote:

Are you implying that there is no scandal here?

If by "scandal" you mean the media has taken a hold of a simple open and shut case and blown it up to be more than than and trying to exploit the details of the case for their benefit while continue to dig for more dirt to milk it even further for their own benefit, then yeah sure there's a scandal.

Kind of reminds me of the Casey Anthony/George Zimmerman stuff. Rather than reporting straight to the facts, people are letting their feelings and their opinions of what did happen and what they THINK happen cloud what the facts are. Everyone wants to get the jump on the latest "hot" story or scandal or big news event that they lose any sense of focus and understanding of the big picture. It marks one of the worst trends in our society over the last few decades. We continue to abandon logic and reason in big news stories/case and allow our feelings and emotions to take over more and more for far too long.

It's a damn shame to, because the only victims of this case - the boys who were molested/raped - have to keep hearing about it at every turn, rather than report the facts and then move on until more facts come along. I seriously doubt any of them truly want to see Penn State's athletic department punished for this when the athletic department and the current student-athletes had nothing to do with the crimes committed against them or the cover up either.
quote:

THEY LET HIM KEEP HIS KEYS AND RAPE BOYS IN THE LOCKER ROOM. Well AFTER his resignation.

frick you are unbelievable stupid. Yeah, you're right chief, all of Penn State - including all the students, staff, faculty, athletes, and even the community knew about this and told Sandusky "Aww shucks, you can still cornhole those boys in the bathroom!"

quote:

The NCAA MUST DO SOMETHING. They will lose a lot of credibility if they do not. You can not punish a program if a coach decides to ignore a player receiving illegal benefits if you do not punish a program that allowed a culture of child molestation to take place in the football facilities of the university.

Lol you think that the PSU Board of Trustees, President, Athletic Director and Joe Paterno were encouraging Sandusky to use the football facilities of to molest boys? Damn you are stupid. Hell even if they did, that's not what the NCAA governs.

They govern the rules of play and player conduct for sports. A former coach molesting young boys is not now nor has it ever been in their jurisdiction. They have no card to play here. It's a legal matter outside of their control as well it should be.

Seriously, learn something before you make an arse out of yourself with your teenage emotional reaction.

This isn't a sports scandal. This had nothing to do with the athletics side of things. If Sandusky was molesting players, then sure, yeah it has something to do with it. This has absolutely nothing directly related to the football program.

Sandusky did these activities on his own time away from the game. He wasn't apart of the AD anymore. Paterno's involvement was finding out, telling the President/Board, and then doing nothing else. He's dead and gone so he's not relevant anymore. This story doesn't belong on ESPN anymore.

It's a scandal that happens to involve some former sports figures, but it doesn't tie into the sport itself. SMU, The Mitchell Report, etc. were/are all sports scandal. This is a story of a former coach being a child molester in his spare time. Leave it to Nancy Grace and Bill O'Reilly and stick to sports talk.
God there are some idiots on here. JoePa is not the police. He reported it to his superiors and then went about his business. Last I checked, he was not in law enforcement. He reported what he knew and went on doing what his job was: Coaching football.

What do people want the old arse man to do? Drag Sandusky to jail himself? I also love the idiots who say "well if I was in the same position I would have... bullshite bullshite bullshite and more bullshite." You have no idea what you would have done in the situation at the time without the privilege of hindsight.

Again, what the hell do you expect Jay to say? ESPN probably called him up before this came out and wanted his comments on it. Of course the guy is going to defend his father. His father wasn't the one molesting kids. His father wasn't the one who led the cover-up. Sure Joe isn't absolved of any wrong doing, but damn, people are acting like he was raping kids too and telling the cops to deal with it. This guy could barely walk around the sidelines of the stadium and you want to crucify him for crap he didn't do.

Sucker born every minute.

......other than being so blatantly wrong at just about everything you post. Kareem not a Top 10 Player? Schaub > Big Ben? ESPN sucks cause they devote so much air time to one of if not THE biggest scandal in Sports History? I mean damn dude, you're failing at such a ridiculous level that it would fly right past Epic Trolling.

Lol you are so fricking stupid that it's pathetic. Again why are you here troll? Your team isn't in the SEC. You have no business here at all.

Kareem is not a top 10 player, I have no idea where the frick you are getting anything about me posting about Schaub, Roethlisberger, or any other quarterback in this thread so that's more trolling on you, and this isn't even a sports scandal anymore nor was it really ever one to begin with, but hey keep letting ESPN tell you what's relevant in the sportsworld lemming.

How's the Longhorns Network working out for you? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Exciting and original thread topic broseph. Would read it again.

Shutting down Penn State football will benefit no one other than media members like Nancy grace who feed on publicity over terrible situations like this. All football operations personel that served during the scandal have been removed. Penn st needs to move on the best they can and start over.

This. People keep digging for a scandal just so they can keep overdramatizing it. I mean seriously. All the parties involved with this case are either going to jail, dead, or out of their position. Leave well enough alone and start focusing on the real problems in the world.
I have no idea why I still give this story the time of day anymore, but what do you really expect Jay to say? His dad wasn't the one molesting the boys. What do you really expect 193 year old Joe Paterno to do about this all? People just keep digging for a bigger scandal than there really is.
See people are so stupid. This was one man who was a former coach who was a sick pervert. That's 90% of it there. If he wasn't a former coach, and was a former security guard at the stadium or concessions clerk or some shite, this never would have come up.

This has nothing to do with the Athletic Department anymore. They Penn State athletic department (current coaches, players, personnel) didn't touch these boys. They didn't cover it up. Buncha damn idiots want to punish the whole school, student body, and community because of the action of a 10 or so individuals. Idiots.
quote:

Are you serious? It's one of, if not the biggest sports scandals ever.

It's not a sports scandal anymore. Seriously you people trying to relate this to the sports world are grasping for straws at this point. Sandusky was a FORMER coach. He was the main catalyst behind it. He was not a part of any program when this story broke. The PSU board/President covered it up. They don't work in the Athletic Department. They have nothing to do with the sports arena.

Paterno is dead. This story has no business being anything more than a passing blip on ESPN's radar. As bad as Sandusky's crimes were, they have nothing to do with Penn State's AD anymore. All those parties are dead or gone. This story doesn't belong on ESPN on 3 damn channels for an entire 24 hours period anymore.

Also, it's far from the biggest sports scandal ever because the scandal itself did not occur in relation to sports. The steroids scandal in baseball, SMU's death penalty, Armstrong potentially on roids, etc. those are sports scandals because they are directly related and involve the sports themselves. As bad as Sandusky's crimes were, he was a former coach. This has nothing to do with athletics anymore. Just another example of ESPN overcovering an event that they have no business giving more than passing coverage too.
