I will say again I was not there, I have no inside info nor I am an eye witness, but the more that comes out about this the worse it looks for WVU no matter how hard the WVU posters wish otherwise.

The latest report from the Daily Mail states the vehicle in which the victims were driving was in "bumper to bumper" traffic.

As I asked last evening, as they were being beaten where was the campus police, where were the Morgantown police, the state police, rent a cop campus security, why did no one in bumper to bumper traffic come to their aid?

Spin this all you want but WVU for lack of providing adequate security and anyone who sat by and watched and did nothing is culpable.

This attack apparently happened on 705 which is not on campus nor does it run through campus. It runs past part of the campus, this is out of WVU's jurisdiction as far as campus police go.

There is no excuse for this and I would love for WVU/Morgantown/and WV to figure out a way to stop this type of action. But I do not know if that is possible. There unfortunately stupid people everywhere. I hope that the town, county, and city provide more police to these type of events in the future.

There were also reports of WVU fans helping these people out. I have no idea how quickly they helped. I worked at a bar during my undergrad years and I do know that it doesn't take long for 3 guys to jump 1 guy and do serious damage like these guys did which is they bounced the guys head off of the pavement.

I am glad that they received some help and apparently some of the witnesses provided help with statements to the police.

I don't think the police chief was trying to spin anything, I think he was just saying that at this point nobody can be ruled out. I would think that these people will be tracked down by some combination of license place info plus vehicle description.

If these people are WVU "fans" then I would be the first one in line to give these guys what they deserve. I hope they spend an extended stay in jail and I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

What the university did is a 'nice' gesture at best. It would become classy if they went out of their way to help the victims in terms of their medical expenses, refund their tickets, reiumburse their entire trip etc. Some of you guys need to raise your bars for your definition of a 'classy' move.

This.

I agree with you both 100% and I have stated already that I hope the university does just this. They should also have a fund raiser also for the family to raise awareness about these type of incidents. It would be good for all parties involved to do something like this.
I did not see the link to donate. I would be happy to donate to the family and any private investigation. (Of course it would have to be a trust worthy person backing the private investigation)

Can anyone give me the link to the article and also post here if they know of anyone taking up donations for the Masons.

Don't think this is WVA property unless they own the streets. When we pulled out of the purple lot he was sitting on the sidewalk covered in blood on the main road by the gas station. Nice gesture by WVA. There's a small road between the lot and the main street, could have happened there.

Thanks for the info, the gas station there is a Sheetz. Was he on the gas station side or the opposite side of the road? I am just trying to place where these people may have been throwing rocks from.

if the dodgers can be liable for what happened i think wvu can be as well. relatively similar situations.

regardless, nice to see the university being classy and doing the right thing.

It depends on where it happened at, if the vehicle was on the road or in the parking lot.

Regardless of where it happened I would think (and hope) that WVU officials make this right. I know it is hard for the university to help these people because that might be some admission of guilt in the matter and it could hit them later in a lawsuit BUT they definitely need to cover all expenses associated with this including any fees that family members and friends paid to travel and visit these people in the hospital. It would be a good first step for the university to take in this situation and I for one hope that they make it.
Thank you for your kind words. I think most LSU fans realize that this does not depict our fan base as a whole, and I do know that AD Oliver Luck and President Clements will do as much as possible to help out and help by adverting this sort of tragedy in the future. They are both class act people who will do the right thing. I am proud to have these gentlemen in charge.

Let us hope that the assailants are caught and spend lots of quality time with Bubba in jail.
I posted this over on the other thread regarding this issue earlier.

For anyone who didn't see it.
West Virginia University Expresses Concern

If anyone was wondering if the university is actively taking a part in the investigation.

I also posted a rather long post about my thoughts and a little insight on the area in which this took place.

As a WVU fan and alumni let me say that I am appalled by this action. This should never happen to anyone at any point for any reason, especially not a guest of the university.

I do have some insight to the area in which this took place. I used to live near there, and I worked in the building when I was a GRA. The building's parking lot is essentially the Purple Lot.

1) This area is not a great place to put a visiting fan's parking lot. There are no police at the intersection directing traffic, this is most likely why traffic was backed up as bad as it was and also why there were no police at the scene. WVU should absolutely rethink this location for visiting fans.

2) The road that this happened on leads up to the backside of two hospitals. This is also most likely why the ambulance was there and probably gone before police could even show up. Where this took place is honestly probably 200 yards away from the two hospitals. The hospital that they were originally taken to is probably 1/2 mile away across the street. Not sure why they were not taken to Ruby Memorial (one of the hospitals up the hill) which is a great Trauma center. Ruby Memorial has two helicopter pads and is where they fly in all trauma in the area.

3) There may not have been many fans around in general. That road leads up to the hospitals and there is nothing else on that road. If they were in the back of traffic then that might be why nobody came immediately to help. Once Hannah started screaming then I am sure the got others attention. Also, people may have come pretty quickly to help. It does not take long for this kind of damage to happen if it was 3 vs 1. One or two kicks and that damage could be done. (Just disgusting that this would happen)

4) That lot is for visiting fans, there were probably more LSU fans around than WVU fans in this area. This would also be the place to go if anyone were looking for trouble. Once again, we don't even know how close other fans were and how long it took them to help. Fans did help and that is the important part, now those same fans need to step forward an help police.

I just thought I would offer some insight on the apparent location that this happened.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of all involved. Reports show that these assailants were throwing rocks at other vehicles also. As horrible as this is it might be the case that they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is NOT their fault at all for being there, but it seems like this could have happened regardless if they were WVU fans or LSU fans.

I should also note that (I am sure most of you know) a lot of people show up to tailgate at football games that are not fans at all. People who live in the area or near will show up and take part of the generosity of the tailgaters. Tailgaters give away food, beer, and a good time. People in the area know this and show up. So there is a possibility that the people responsible for this were not a fan of either WVU or LSU.

I hope they catch these people involved in this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

If anyone knows of any collection being taken up on behalf of the injured parties then please post it here, I would love to donate and help the family.

I understand the anger of anyone here and trust me, I am angrier than anyone here. As a West Virginia native, WVU fan and alumni this report makes me sick to my stomach. Words cannot express my apologies to you all, especially the parties involved.
