CSAL 8th grade basketball mid-season

Posted by Petrol on 1/19/15 at 8:19 am
I went to the St. George Tournament this weekend after the LSU meltdown against Texas AM.

Today it's SGS v. UHIGH for the final. According to UHIGH coach (Don Green's son- former Parkview coach) they are undefeated. They beat OLOM by 12 in the semifinal. SJS beat Runnels in the other semifinal easily. In the 3rd place game OLOM beat Runnels by 15. I tried to ask the coaches their records. St. Jude has lost 3 games, SJS has lost 3 including blowouts to UHS and one to OLOM at Sacred Heart. STM has lost 3 games. Those coaches weren't sure of their overall records. Sacred Heart hasn't won a game. OLOM is 10-1. They were missing their head coach Fisher because his dad died- Nathan Fisher- who they told me was a well known and popular lawyer in town. However- I don't think it would have made any difference. The assistant coach wasn't sure if Coach Fisher would be back but he said he thinks it might be next week sometime if at all. That's about everything I could find out. There were some good games even in the consolation bracket. Very competitive. Many of the winners bracket games were not close. It looked like to me- and I don't know them well enough- SJS had a very easy time to the final game while the other side had Catholic-OLOM-St. Jude and UHIGH. CHS coach thought they had lost 2 or 3 games but was unsure of their total record. If anybody has better information please post and keep everyone updated. I'm starting to see that this CSAL is a really big deal in the Catholic community in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas.
First of all- my post was sarcasm...

You also didn't use the entire quote.

To suggest we don't have talent anymore isn't accurate. I lived through all of Archer and Hallman and watched the talent level drop drastically. We are not in the same position now.

It is nice you are positive. Enjoy the ride.
Had Miles won only 25 games instead of 100; not won a NC and played in another; and sent many kids into the NFL- he would have been fired a long time ago.
Mercy beat SJS by close to 20 in the semifinals at Sacred Heart. St. Jude beat STM by the same. Finals were very physical and sloppy but extremely intense and Mercy won with a shot at the buzzer by one. St. Jude was without their stud big man but it seemed they actually played faster without him. Not sure why he was hurt. I did speak to Coach Fisher after the game and he was disappointed they did not play St. Jude at full strength. The crowd was loud and both teams played like it was the city championship game and not a beginning of the season tournament.

Also I found out from a relative that University beat SJS by 20+. SJS could not even get the ball past half court against the press until the last minute or two of the first quarter according to my source. LOL.

It should be a good year in CSAL and I am looking forward to the rest of the games.

I had a bit of trouble and Nathan Fischer helped me get it totally off my record. He was expensive but worth every penny. He told me how he represented Jarvis Landry during the big fight at Shady's a few years ago and he wasn't arrested or anything.
I am sure that show will be a bastion of free thought.......
When he ran the ball on Friday: he ran THROUGH a wood be tackler. It reminded me of Hershel Walker running over Bill Bates in his first game at Georgia.

I thought he had broken the poor kid's neck.

Amazing for a high school kid.

The talent is first class and made up of serious prospects. It is sort of like the basketball program when Garrett Temple and Glen Davis played. Everyone on that team could play.
After reading the article; some of it probably goes on everywhere: including Vandy and Notre Dame and Stanford.

Saban used to bully people to ensure grades were OK for the kids to play.

DiNardo did the same thing. Cecil Collins could not write....but he could expose himself to classmates.

If you read all of it; its hard to tell what constitues fraud and what just might be poor policy and decision making.
He worked at Bama for Gene Stallings coaching db's i think. and he would have beer in the coaching box for the games...
Correct; Archer was a bad recruiter. He was probably too young (34) to be LUS coach especially when the 2 other finalists were: Suprrier and Sam Rutigliano of NFL fame....
One evening at Phil's Oyster Bar, he was in the back room and we were talking and having a beer or two or a case.....

He was telling me how proud he was for keeping his thumb on Brett Farve and that Farve had discipline at Southern Miss because of him.

Then he told me what he sadi to Jamie Howard after his 4 interception 4th quarter..."I just looked at him and said...get the frick on the bus" in his Southern drawl...

Great guy; this job was way too big for him. And it showed.

With all that talent; I hope they win a championship.

As an alum its good to see the football program being elite again; like the early 80's to early 90's
I sat through the 58-3 beatdown from Florida. It amazed me that just a decade or so earlier we were in 2 Sugar Bowls.

I could not speak; so I drank. A. Lot.
What I have seen is that he doesn't call plays- he merely says- "run" or "pass".

I think he probably calls the trick plays specifically.
Trus or false
1)Charlie Alexander never played a game at TS while there was an upper deck (F)
2) Dalton Hilliard never scored a touchdown in a bowl game (F)
3) Eric Martin was back-up QB as a freshman (F)
4) In the 55-24 "oranges" win over FSU in 1982, the game was tied at 14 at halftime (F)
5) Lance Smith was recruited to LSU by Bo Rein (T)
6) The 1980 team voted to not go to a bowl game after being invited to Peach Bowl (F)
7) Mickey Guidry threw more TD passes in 1986 than Hodson (F)
8) LSU had four RB's drafted in NFL from signing class of 1982 (T)
9) LSU is only SEC team to never lose to Walter Lewis led Bama team? (F)
10) Brad Davis left LSU as our all time leading rusher? (T)
11) Robert Dow had more punt return yards at LSU than TM7? (F)
12) Mike Archer was the only head coach in 1980's to win his first game as LSU head coach? (T)

Baton Rouge sports radio talk is a joke. I think anyone from Tiger Droppings that is literate could do their job just as well.

He has had concussion problems for about 2 years.

Depends on the lawyer. For something like this, there are certain lawyers that can assist better than others. I have never heard of his lawyer. That isn't a jab at her professional acumen, its simply reality that some lawyers know how to navigate a bit more.

LSU v. Wichita State in 1981 at Superdome to go to the Final 4

LSU v. Memphis State in PMac NCAA's in 1986 to advance to the sweet 16

LSU v. Kentucky in Atlanta in 1986 to go to Final 4. I was there in a sea of blue....

LSU v. Auburn 1995 12-6 final. Set the stage for us to go to a bowl game.

LSU v. USC in 1979. Tiger Stadium has never been that electric.

LSU v. Bama in 1979. Tiger Stadium has never been that wet for a game. 3-0 Final.

I am a little more old school so these were games that happened when I was in Elementary, Middle, or High School. Fond memories.
