I would like to thank the above SEC Ranters for confirming the opinions of all of us Yankees. I would also like to thank the poster who gave PSU the nod for most underated awful fans- that means a lot! It's also great to hear the LSU faithful are still complaining about the field conditions at the Cap One Bowl (and apparently clarity issues with your headsets?).

Joe Paterno- Penn State
Bo Shembeckler- Michigan

My favorite part is Coach O at the end. Reminds me of the 'General Reb is Cryin' song from a few years back.

Here it is one more time, just to pile on.

I think what everyone is forgetting is that the penalty flag was thrown when Hitt picked Bowman up and threw him down. Had he kept his cool, Bowman would have probably been flagged for delay of game and you may have even had time added to the clock. Playing football for 10 years and coaching for another 10, what Bowman did is part of the game. Is it in the gray area? Probably. Is it gamesmanship. Yeah. But so is hitting the center before the snap (don't pretend this didn't happen on several occasions). LSU would have done the same thing if the roles were reversed, I don't care what anyone says. Most of you will disagree but here are some things I hope we can all agree on:
1) field was an embarassment
2) thank god no one on either team was hurt as a result
3) the Citrus Bowl is a dump
Agreed on the field. I watched the Florida high school championships over the previous two weekends and the field was in crappy shape for those games. I don't know why they thought they could resod and then have two college games a week later. The Citrus Bowl is such a POS. I'm looking forward to the Gator Bowl having more influence with the Big Ten and SEC and hopefully moving away from Orlando altogether. Jacksonville may not have as much going on as Orlando, but we sure can host a football game!
WE ARE...PENN STATE did NOT originate after the "We Are Marshall" movie. It actually originated in 1947 before the 1948 Cotton Bowl. Penn State had already integrated and the unwritten rule of the day was black players could not play against southern teams. Team captain Steve Suhey (father of Chicago Bear Matt Suhey and grandfather of current PSU fb Joe Suhey) told SMU officials before the Cotton Bowl that "We all play or no one plays- We are Penn State!" SMU agreed and the game ended in a tie, with the tying touchdown being scored by Wally Tripplett, a black wide receiver from Penn State. The cheer became a rallying cry for Penn State and our values.
I know some of you will rip into me after this, and I'm probably massochistic for doing this, but I can't wait for the game tomorrow. I love college football and I think this a great matchup of traditional powers. It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since we last played. I'm looking forward to getting "Tiger Baited" by someone tomorrow, and I can't wait to hear the roar of "WE ARE...PENN STATE!" That's what college football is all about- the passion of the fans and the emotions we all have for our teams. So from me to you- here's hoping for a great game and a Hell of a party in Orlando.

He's been on the sideline all year. He was only in the press box the second half of last year after hip surgery (an injury he sustained kicking onside kicks at practice). As a PSU alum in Florida, I can't wait to see him bring the team onto the field tomorrow!!
Beyond football, here are some more JoePa statistics:

Current Grad rate: 89% (highest of any team in top 25)

45 Academic All Americans during his tenure (34 first team), the school's total of 47 AAAs is 3rd most in FBS and 1st in Big Ten

Helped raise $13.5 million to build new library which bares his name

In 1997, he and his wife gave $3.5 mil for endowed professorships in the University Libraries and the College of Liberal Arts, a graduate fellowship and a scholarship in liberal arts, and a graduate fellowship in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. They also directed support to help build a new interfaith spiritual center and the All-Sports Museum, both located on the campus.

More importantly, because of success on the field, he turned Penn State into a world class university (typically ranked in the top 50 nationally) from its modest beginnings as an agricultural school.

I know this doesn't matter to LSU fans, but this is why Penn State alums love Joe Pa. He means far more to most of us than wins and losses. Would we like to see more wins? I'd be lying if we said we didn't. But you have to agree that their is far more to life than football and Joe has done way more than any other coach will ever do.

Is it any worse than "G E A U X Geaux Tigers? Just wait until you hear the "We Are...Penn State" about 300 times Jan 1.

Joepa- "Wow, LSU fans really do smell like corn dogs!"

Miles- "Now Joe, it's 2009 and you can't spout off stereotypes like that."
