uga played them most of the game in a 4-3 style and walked the safety up to have a 4-4 look and it was effective until late in the game when the safeties failed to wrapp up.... i think if our d line can push the oline into the qb's lap and disrupt that timing we should be in good shape to make plays
I seemed to recall that we rushed for over 200 yards in the 3rd quarter. I believe we took the lead with 7+ minutes to go in the 3rd q. I wouldn't call that late in the game.
As I have mentioned several times my favorite play in that game was a formation with two a backs to the wide side of the field and one receiver. The other receiver (Thomas) was on the short side by himself. We ran the option to the short side and the safety came charging up as Thomas ran a slant route with the corner covering. Thomas blocked the safety and 60 yards later, untouched, Jones was caught from behind trying to set up a block by Cox on the other safety. That set up the field goal to end our 26 point 3rd quarter.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I'm not going to argue with you. The facts that I presented are true whether you accept them or not.

maybe but LSU has lead the sec in the past 10 years in the draft.. Also leading the draft doesnt mean shite, just means you have alot of individual talent and no team play...
Last time I checked LSU has two NC and it was def. team play!
I don't care what your stats are. Last time I checked it was stll the SouthEastern Conference and not the LSUConference.
The point was we were called the Athletically Challenged Conference. I can assure you that the NFL drafts athletes whether you care to acknowledge that fact or not. I can also assure you that the ACC sent more 1st rounders and more total draft choices to the NFL than any other conference over the last three years.
Take your first sentence and then apply it to your second sentence. Then how does the third one make any sense.
Logic is not one of your specialties that is for sure.

It may not look good as far as education goes, but as far as football, I'd rather the nickname be "Special Ed Conference" than "Athletically Challenged Conference."
I don't like to get into playing around with the initials of conferences. But your statement is not backed up by facts. Which conference in all of football had the most NFL draft choices and the most 1st round draft picks over the last 3 years? The answer starts with Atlantic Coast and ends with conference.

well the difference is that those teams only had a week to prepare for the triple option. its tough to prepare for something you only see once a year because you have no clue to what is effective against it and you have to start from scratch in the gameplan.
That is not right. Georgia had 14 days to prepare. Since you started practice this week and Christmas is next week and then the game the following Wed, that is about the same as you have.

Quite easily, I went to high school with Tyson Jackson, who shed the short side double, and Quinn Johnson (would played lb in hs) he would blow up the play in the backfield; minus yards every time, I loved playing teams who ran this play. I really hope GT runs it every time on the 31st.
So you can't say how you would defend it. I didn't expect that anyone would. You don't mention who is assigned to do what or how you are pass defending. But I thought you said it was simple.
I agree with you, if we can't block you, then you will stop us. But that is true for every game we played this year and has little to do with assignment football.

When we defended it in school we made the DE take QB, outside LB take first RB and either the corner or safety take Second RB!
So if it wasn't hard I guess the O you went against didn't block. No offense is hard to defend in that case. :rotflmao:
Expect us to block some of those people you assign to defend.
Also, you didn't mention how you covered the wr and a backs against a pass in hs? We do and will pass if you don't cover them.
Who would you assign on this formation?
On the far left side we have a wr. Next comes the OL with the ball on the right hash. On the short side out wide is the other wr. One yard off the line is an a back inside the wr, with another a back on the wing on the wide side and the qb under center. The b back is behind the qb 4 yards off the los.
How did you pass protect this formation in HS?
This is how ugag defended. They assigned the cb's to cover both wr's. They assigned a safety to cover the outside a back and a olb to cover the inside a back. On the short side they had a safety deep who was assigned to the option pitch on that side. The DE on that side was assigned to the qb. The MLB was assigned to cover the B back dive. We cut blocked the DT on the wide side, doubled the DT on the short side and blocked the OLB. The wr on the short side ran a slant and BLOCKED the safety (who was assinged to cover the pitch) on that side and the corner back followed him in coverage, as he was assigned. We pitched to the option a back who went 60 yards untouched before being tackled.
Yes sir, it is not hard. Now how did you defend that play in hs?

Gee UF couldn't put up 500 yards total O against Miami either. They managed 89 rushing and 345 total O. Against you they managed 265 rushing and 475 total O. Looks like Miami had a better day against them than you did. I hate to tell you this but we did put up about 1.5 times as many yards against Miami than UF did.
So I'm saying that your logic seems to have a big hole in it. Did you play Oklahoma?
Now I expect a good game from you but I do expect our O to put some points on the board.

I'm just saying if the team competing the the NC game that has waaaaaaayyy more speed and athletes than GT couldn't do it then I don't see GT doing it.

BTW, I watched a bunch of GT clips and I have yet to see one bit of mis-direction.
You have to watch more closely. For instance, on the triple option and the mid-line option the a back starts in motion just before the snap. The qb can hand off to the b back by turning toward the a back or he can keep it by turning back in the direction the a back is moving. On the triple option the a back continues to the outside. On the mid-line the a back turns sharply into the los and leads blocking for the qb on the side opposite to the b back fake. The misdirection to this is two fold. The qb fakes to the b back but instead of turning to the direction the a back started he can turn it up field behind the b back as the a back leads the qb into the hole. Or the a back can stop and go back the other way for an option on that side. So there are four plays where the direction is determined by the play called but the fake to the b back looks the same.

Stay in your position/zone and you can defend. One misstep - goodbye!
Only if you can avoid the blocks. My favorite play is the long run by Jones late in the 3rd that set up the fg. Demaryius Thomas is the wr on the short side. We have both A backs on the left side with Cox between Jones and the other wr. It is 3rd and 4 so Uga must protect the pass. Looks like they are in man cover on Thomas with safety help. This is the short side of the field. Thomas comes in with the corner on him and seals the lateral motion of the D. Jones gets the pitch and 60 yards later is tackled from behnind as Cox is downfield blocking. Looked like the safety also respected the inside move of Thomas so he essentially took 3 players out of the play.
re: So, what specifically concerns you about the Yellow Jackets?
Posted by GTsaltheart on 12/16/08 at 10:11 am to Papa Purple and Gold
Yes Jason Peters has played as a backup. He has played in 9 games and has 5 tackles. So he is not a big contributor.
Our entire D line is something of which you should be aware. Derrick Morgan (soph) is the other DE and is tied with Johnson in sacks. Vance Walker and Darrel Richard (Destrehan, La.) are srs and have received honors. Walker has been projected as a 1st rounder. We are 12th in the country in tackles for loss thanks in part to the DL. In the backfield JWD is our best cover corner and should play after being out with an injury. Morgan Burnett is tied for the lead in interceptions with 7 including a pick 6 against uga.
On O don't forget Roddy Jones who averages 9 ypc from the A back.

agreed.....BUT, seriously, UGAs defense sucks.
Then what does your D do? I mean UGa is rated 28th in the country compared to your 36th and that is after the 438 yards we put on them. In fact if you factor out the GT game from their stats, their rushing D is right there with yours. Needless to say they played 'Bama and UF also. They played a tougher OOC schedule since they played us and ASU (2 BCS teams). In fact Sagarin ranks their schedule 14th toughest compared to 52nd for you.

Actually both the Navy fans and GSU fans who have come to our board since his hire, say that I will take until next year for us to get to where we need to be. Everything after that will be based on the personnel that we have.
It is amazing how many fans of former schools follow and root for us now.

For what it is worth, Coach Johnson said the exact same thing at the Coach's luncheon yesterday. Actually, I think it was the first comment he made, which struck me as odd. Smoke screen if you ask me, it just seems odd that he would be so public with your strategy.
Why not? If your D coordinator takes the same attitude as you and you don't prepare for our passing game, seems you are in trouble if we do and can pass. If you do prepare more for our passing then you prepare less for our rushing. My impression of Johnson is he doesn't lie. But you believe what you want.

the formation is the same. The point of PJ's O is you can't tell what aspect of the O he plans to run from the formation. So when we try the run and shoot (assuming we do) it will be from a variation of the flexbone that we can use for every other offensive play we can run.

There is no story. We won. They played well and had a good D. Calvin Booker was our qb and was not able to run the option or complete passes so our O was basically non existant. Fortunately our D won the game for us despite our 3 turnovers.
