re: Brown is dying on the inside

As a former D1 outfielder he doesn't look comfortable in the OF. He doesn't get good jumps on the ball. In that play, he turns his hips correctly and has a good angle to the ball, however he never reaches out for the fence with his throwing hand. Thats taught at an early age to outfielders when they get to warning track. Find the fence.
At the last second, he squares up which is a no no because it makes you backpedal. Now he can't find the fence. If you slow the video down, you will see him flinch as he braces for wall contact. Then completely misses the ball. Routine, no, but very easily a caught ball.
Remember in a earlier game, can't quite remember. Shot to CF and he appeared to slip and ball went over his head. He didn't slip, his first step was in. Your taught that your first step is always back, then crash in.
Another play was 1st inning fly ball which he came to a stop and let the ball fall. Announcer made it seem that it would have been a tough play. Not if you get a jump on the ball.
I think given the situation of the OF's, he was thrown out there, hit the ball well or better than the others and stayed out there. is it his natural position, don't know, but he doesn't look comfortable.

re: Signed football from 2003 NC team

I have 2 of them for each one of my sons. My sister was a senior and a member of the Golden Girls that year when Saban won the title. She is real close friends with Andrew Whitworth. Unless you know for sure that the ball/balls you have were "actually" signed by the Players and Saban, it's a crap shoot. reason I say that is when she decided to get the balls signed, she gave them to Whit and made sure that the players signed the ball, because there was so much celebration going on that managers, ball boys, trainers and such were signing the players names on balls. Not the players. Whit told my sister that there was a rolling cart usually used for towels and dirty laundry, that was full of balls needing to be signed for people and the support staff was told to sign these for the players so that they could go celebrate. So again, unless you actually know, it's a coin flip. Still a great conversation piece though.

Its too late this year, but if there interested, and they have multiple teams of multiple grades, I say go for it. Some teams are equivalent to USSSA AAA teams and others AA. It really depends on how big your school is as the competitive nature of your players. Its far from a Rec league if that's what your thinking. Funny thing is, my weekend tournament team consists of kids from multiple teams, so during the week, they play against each other representing their respective schools.

Yes, they do. I have been involved with the middle school league over here in West Baton Rouge for almost 9 years now. Its started off with 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. Now teams with not enough kids can combine school grades to make teams. We have some 5/6th and some 7/8th. The league consists of approx 50 teams. Games are played from early march and end at early may with 2 tournaments. Teams from Holy Family, Brusly, St. John, Ascension Catholic, Zachary, Plaquemine High, WF, EF, St. Aloy, MSA, CHSPC, Livonia, Valvertta, False River, and several more from the BR area.
Also this year marks the first year that we have a 3rd and a 4th grade team league. Only 5 teams, but more to come. The league is played during the week, so it doesn't effect the travel ballers that ply on weekends. Thus the same kids can play both, which makes for the league to be very competitive.

i believe everything you said until 'they are going back to the old style bats' - bs - the diameter of the new bats has changed drastically - so your telling me that the bats that were used in the early 1990's are the same type that are being used in 2012 - i need some more evidence to believe this crap.
yep. The only real glaring difference is the bats went from 2 3/4" barrels to 2 5/8" barrels. The bats were all -3's until aroung '94-'95 in which they went -5's. At the time, they were only a few bats wotrh swinging and the magic was one of them. Hell the easton gold that everyone remembers had just came out around the 89-90's. Hymel hit hit HR's with this. It was just 2 years earlier in 86-87 when Belle hit the school record for HR's with a silver easton (old school, called green easton). The one glaring thing is barrel diameter. The smaller barrel diameter doesn't have the same spring board effect as the older 2 3/4" but overall the bat is basically the same. So again, yes the bats now are as close as it get to the older style bats as it gets other than the barrel diameter. I would go so far as to say that I would rather swing the bats of today that the shite we used back then. The bats now are more balanced.

The long HR that everyone talks about that Lyle hit was against Nicholls State in 91' and it indeeed hit the dorms in left field. The reason I know cuz I was there. It was my freshman year for the Colonels and he hit it of Shane Especia. It sounded like a cannon went off when he hit it and it looked like it was gonna cross the light pole. Remember it like it was yesterday. One of the hardest balls I had ever seen hit. What everyone fails to realize is that when we played back in the early 90's, the bats were dead as they are today. It was basically like swinging a piece of conduit. he swung a black magic easton (top dog back in the day). It wasn't until my senior year that the -5's (so called ping pong bats) came out, thus larson's monster season. All they are doing is basically going back to the old style bats.
