They also lost to Penn State that year too who finished 11-1.
Entirely possible they were 4th best in nation.

They weren't better than USC. and they lost to us head to head.

I shouldn't have said unanimously, but most people agree that he is. What's so shocking about that?
not really. I watch basketball, I also watch MMA boxing and football. I know what a "physical" sport is.
Yeah, agreed. they had much more offensive talent.
In any case, regardless of the lack of "style points", coming out of the Shoe with a win at night is impressive IMO.

1 loss Oklahoma over 0 loss PSU would be an absolute travesty, and I doubt it's even possible.
Celtics defense doesn't look like it's dropped off much. I think they'll get less than 66 wins, but see nobody challenging them in the East. Pistons didn't do anything, Mo Williams is not enough for the Cavs, and the Magic well... they just aren't good enough.
Philly needs some more outside shooting to compliment Brand if they wanna challenge the C's, which they do not have.

No, it really isn't.
Your arguments have been quite stupid I must say. Damp/Diop are physical interior presences just like Chandler, in fact they even average more blocks.
West is good, but more of a mid range jump shooter (isn't his nickname 15 foot assassin?)... kind of like Dirk, except Dirk is better and gets to the FT line more. Nobody is going to mistake EITHER for a "low post presence".
Posey, good defender and a good role player.
Bottom line is, "soft" is the stupidest term coined in basketball. Let's reserve that for boxing and football and other contact sports, not a sport where breathing on someone can sometimes warrant free throws.
And I'm not defending the Mavs, I'm fairly certain we will be outside of the T5-6 in the West this year.

So physicality relates with interior presence, yet the Warriors, who beat the Mavs with the 3-PT shot and Davis dominating Devin Harris are more PHYSICAL than the Mavs? Yeah, that makes sense.
Diop and Dampier are above average interior defenders. Low post scoring is lacking, which is what'll probably hold this team back in the playoffs.
:rotflmao: as if he has any offensive game whatsoever outside of alley oops from Chris Paul?

Well thankfully basketball isn't a physical sport.
What makes them the "softest" in the league then? They're a jump shooting team, just like the Warriors, Hornets, Blazers, Bulls, Pistons and a bunch of teams that are lacking consistent interior scoring.

He's the same age as Garnett.
lol, do you have any proof to back that up or are you just a troll around here?

actually, you can make the debate that if you swap Garnett and Duncan the Spurs would NOT win 4 titles. A huge part of the Spurs' success is Duncan's style of play. Low post, back to the basket, excellent interior defender.
Garnett is more of a jump shooter, can disappear for large stretches offensively, and cannot imprint games as well as Duncan can.
Duncan is unanimously recognized as the greatest PF of all time. Garnett will be recognized as a top five PF in the history books.

I'm a Mavs fan. And Duncan/Garnett are 32, so the "age" argument doesn't have any value.

As for Garnett's number being hung up, I agree with Van Gundy that longevitiy has to be taken into consideration. If he's only a Celtic for 3-4 more years I don't think that's enough. At this point it makes more sense for his number to be retired by Minnesota.

Duncan is the cornerstone of 4 titles, Garnett was riding the coattails of Pierce in the Finals.
Regarding the close win v OSU, it was somewhat underwhelming, but LSU and USC essentially had home games v OSU, and Florida was a neutral site. night game at shoe isn't easy for ANY team IMO... see 2005 Texas (went on to win national championship).

He also said Garnett is the best PF in the league, which is absurd as long as Duncan is still playing.
