yeah, let's run every pump, valve, fin/fan, pipe, tubing, roto meter, cooling tower, I mean everything wide arse open. yeah that's how we design plants to run. I mean it's exactly like a jambalaya pot right? Let's do it 100% of the time too, and then let's never have a turnaround for maintenance, and then let's listen to laymen's advice on the margins being made and how it's ridiculous, that just because we invest billions of dollars on that equipment that the public is entitled to have the lowest cost.

when MTBE was banned in the US the suitable oxygenate to reduce NOx was ethanol. This also obviously had big benefits for corn producing states. Also, when you think you're getting ethanol free gasoline, you're still getting an oxygenate in it in the form of isobutanol which doesn't absorb water.

it is not an oil supply issue, it's a global refining capacity issue. Russia diesel and distillate supply taken offline by Ukraine has incentivized the US to produce/export more diesel driving up our prices.
If we embargo diesel exports, that will just repeat the problems that happened in the 1970s with soybean and grain exports (Japan and China shifting investments to Brazil and Argentina for a couple generations).
If we embargo exports of diesel we will have to reduce run rates of refineries in the US to 88-92% (currently at 96.8%) meaning even less gasoline will be produced for domestic use all the while giving up any possibility of Europe relying on US supply for a few generations because they will simply shift investment to other regions (i.e. middle east) for future supply guarantees. Ukraine is the source of our global energy issues, not the Strait of Hormuz and not even the price of oil.
