So you guys cheat then right? The playing field isn't level correct?
No?? wtf are you talking about? first of all, whoever wrote in this thread that ALL LSU band members receive full scholarships is an idiot. There are a very SMALL amount of people in Tiger Band who have a FULL scholarship. In fact, only 20% of Tiger Band is music majors. People like myself did band because we love it with a passion and have always wanted to be a part of it. Everyone in Tiger Band gets a STIPEND of $1000. In no way is that a full scholarship. I am graduating from LSU in the next couple of weeks because I decided to be a good student my entire life and I earned an academic scholarship. Most people in the band are like me and give a shite about making something of themselves. So STFU about the playing field not being level. Tiger Band gets great students and has the best band because we have the best tradition, the most passion, the best fan base, the best school, and the best directors. you are a piece of shite

re: LSU baseball throwback hat "L"

what you bought is NOT the REAL throwback LSU baseball hat. they do not make it. the real hat is made by new era and is a fitted hate (meaning it has specific sizes). what you bought is a FLEX-FIT hat that is a knock-off of the real one. the bill is also bent, not flat like the real one. the only people that have the real hats are baseball players, staff, and lucky people who know baseball players. my friend met a guy who was wearing one at the LSU-UNO baseball game down in New Orleans this year, and he asked him where he got it, and he told him that one of the players gave it to him. my friend then offered him $60 for it, but he declined.

re: The best burger in Louisiana

Best burgers in my opinion:
5. Russell's Marina Grill in West End
4. Lakeview Deli? (whatever the place is where Lovecchio's used to be on Harrison)
3. Bud's Broiler (best FAST FOOD-type burger) - and cheap
2. Port o Calls
1. YO MAMA'S BAR AND GRILL - the peanut butter burger will change your life. their prices is slightly better than Port o Calls and they have more selection. They make their burgers differently from Port o Calls, but i like them better. try it if you've never been LINK
that being said, i've never tried Lakeview Harbor nor Beachcorner Bar and Grill. Tom Fitzmorris swears that Beachcorner makes the best burger

Angels? Troy doesn't pray? This kind of post(#13 to be exact), is a fricking complete joke!! We have the God complex on our side?
Ummm.....no. Did you even stay the whole game? This post is about the entire student body and stadium flapping their arms like angels. Here's how it went down:
There was a little kid sitting next to the band (I believe his name is Kevin Dupree), who started flapping his arms like an angel, like what happens in the Angels in the Outfield movie. Me and my friend who plays bass drum in the Tiger Band caught him doing this and then started mimicking him. We started screaming for people to join in and it eventually caught in with EVERYONE! It was one of the funnest things I have ever done at a LSU game. That little kid is the reason that LSU won the game and we still have a shot at going to a legit bowl game. I believe in angels and I believe they guided us to a victory tonight!!

I can't help that I didn't like the horn flashes. I really don't think it's a stretch to say that they objectively have nothing to do with how well a band performs a song. As I said to another detractor, ESPN's site asks us to vote for our "favorite performance of the Indiana Jones theme song" -- emphasis on "performance" and "song." To my way of thinking, this means that -- as with any other musical group -- assessing the bands has more to do with how and what they play than anything else. Why is it that I'm taking such flak for holding a common-sense perspective here?
You are taking things way too literally, man. It is not a "common-sense perspective" to assume that the intentions of the contest are to vote for a band based on its musical arrangement. That's ludicrous. Just because it says to vote based on "favorite performance of the Indiana Jones theme song" does not mean that other factors besides music should be disregarded. ESPN would not have sent a film crew to every school if having a visual performance was not important. They could have asked every band to record the music and send it in. THAT would be a contest based purely on musicality. Secondly, I don't care what music school you went to or any of that. You coming on this website and claiming to be a know-it-all of musical arrangement doesn't mean shite to me. I know a fairly good bit about arranging music, and so does the LSU band department. I think you will find many other geniuses like yourself who believe that our arrangement was excellent and challenging. If LSU had a pit like UGA, it would kill anything that UGA put on display. The talent level of LSU's band far exceeds any other band in this country. We have people who can wail away on the xylophone and fluff out and ornament an arrangement, but that's not the kind of band we are. We focus on the wind instruments and the strong brass sound that overpowers any other group. As for our horn flashes, it takes a lot of talent to keep things looking as sharp as we do. Any old band can't just throw in horn flashes that fit with the music and make it look precise. You downplay that ability a lot. Too bad you couldn't see everything that our band was doing. There were way more (and better) horn flashes that were not shown on the video. All of the flashes paid homage to the Indiana Jones franchise (i.e. - the guillotine, the cymbals slicing each other, a mello-coaster which you did not see in the video). And as for me flipping you off, I hope that doesn't offend you. Why don't you come over sometime and I'll let you swallow my championship semen? Then you can know what its like to be a part of the best band in the land that plays for the best team in the land.
Now go cry

You keep talking about the musical arrangement, but you are missing the point of the competition. Simply having the best musical arrangement doesn't mean you should win this band contest. As a member of this year's Tiger Band, I can safely say that our arrangement is pretty damn strong. The LSU pregame intro that we used and the Tiger Rag theme of "Hold that Tiger" make the song something of our own. I would hardly call it cheesy, more like kick arse. And our horn flashes killed every other band. The other bands were all boring and had nothing to wow the audience. Here's why we are the best: great arrangement, great horn flashes, Les Miles, Mike the Tiger, and the hottest dance team in the country. So go play with yourself now and have a great day
