Suggestions for Trip to Europe

Looking for suggestions for a Europe trip in May after finals and before my friends and I have to go do summer jobs. Would be around 2-3 weeks. I have been to Spain and Portugal with my parents but never gone alone/navigated the European railway. We are thinking of relatively affordable interrail/hostel trip. We have not been able to settle on a location. My friends have never been anywhere in Europe so they are not giving much input.
