LSU Football 2010: Mayday! Mayday!

What about Kirby Smart? Perhaps he would be willing to come to prove he can be successful away from Saban.

Some SEC officials have attended SEC schools. The ref that knocked down Stephen Garcia during the South Carolina game last year (Wilbur Hackett) played for Kentucky. And that's just one off the top of my head. I'm sure there are many more. I just don't understand how they can let this happen.
And great job guys on digging this up. Keep up the good work! We'll get to the bottom of this soon.

We should not move on. That's what the SEC wants us to do. We have to stand up for ourselves, otherwise this will happen again.

I'll be pulling hard for Al Qaeda.
re: Is this unprecedented?

I've always been one to laugh at people who come up with crazy conspiracy theories, whether it's about SEC Football or anything else. But there is a great amount of evidence to build a case that something is going on here.
Big Plays
Posted by John Beckwith on 11/8/09 at 8:37 pm
Every great SEC game comes down to four or five big plays that go a long way in deciding the outcome of the game. In Saturday's game IMO they were as follows:
Julio Jones' 73-yard touchdown
Greg McElroy safety
Charles Scott's 34-yard run to set up TD
LSU roughing the kicker penalty
Patrick Peterson's blown interception
It is a shame when one of the plays that decides a game is a bad call by the referees. In a day when we have instant replay to review questionable plays, it is inexcusable to have a blown call end up being one of the big plays that determines a game. We may or may not have won the game, but the blown call had a huge impact on the game and nobody can deny that.

I was just thinking the same thing. He's from Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas, with a stop at Meridian Community College in between. Other than playing us I don't know of a connection.

re: My take on Jefferson and Lee.
Posted by John Beckwith on 10/18/09 at 9:43 pm
I went back and watched the Florida game again this weekend and I found a few interesting observations about Jefferson.
First, as many have already stated, he is simply afraid. He won't throw the ball down the field unless the receiver has no defender near him.
Second, his mobility does not bring as much to the offense as some think. If my math is correct, he only ran the ball seven times for 31 yards (not including sacks). And his inability to run the option actually hurts the offense.
Third, he is not very accurate. He missed on some relatively easy passes and several of his completions were high which didn't allow the receiver to be able to run after the catch.
Fourth, he has no pocket presence. He does not know how to step up in the pocket or when to run or throw the ball away.
Finally, he simply seems like he doesn't have confidence. I normally don't pay much attention to body language, but he doesn't seem to have the confidence and leadership abilities to lead the offense right now.
I know he's still young but I think it is time to see what Lee can do this year.

If that doesn't give you chills then I suggest you head to the hospital.

I could be wrong, but wasn't CP at the Xavier-LSU basketball game last year?? I know Posey and a few others were there pulling for Xavier. I love CP, but I'd still rather have a former Tiger.
re: No College football coverage:
Posted by John Beckwith on 10/5/09 at 10:37 am
ESPN does a horrible job of covering college football during the week. The NFL is the king of the sports world and we all know that. But to not have any coverage of college football on Monday mornings is ridiculous. It has some to do with the fact that ESPN is located in a part of the country where the NFL is huge and college football doesn't really matter. It also has to do with ESPN simply not being a good journalistic network. Unfortunately there is little we can do about it.

re: Late 4th Q fg to win game in regulation

Getting back to the original question, we beat Ole Miss in 2006 on a Colt David field goal in overtime to win. It was a "walk-off" kick, if you will.
Great Road Games
Posted by John Beckwith on 9/9/09 at 10:00 pm
I just got back from Washington the other day and it was definitely the best road game I have ever been to. I know the subject of scheduling has been beaten to death on here but I really wish we would play more home-and-homes with schools like Washington. While playing schools like this on the road can be risky, I really believe it is worth it. For those of you that were lucky enough to make the trip you know that you made memories that you will never forget. I plan on emailing Joe Alleva and encouraging him to schedule more games like the Washington game. And I encourage everyone to do the same. Also, while on the topic, I decided to list list a few schools I'd love to see us schedule a home-and-home with. Please add your favorites.

Yeah it was last May. I remember I was at the SEC Baseball Tournament when I first heard the news.

 My bad. Thanks for the catch.
Also, the moment I saw John Saunders was hosting the show I knew it was going to be a huge disappointment. I'm surprised he didn't start immediately talking about USC the moment he mentioned LSU.

You ppl amaze me, you can't see whats right in front of your face. Every damn thing they talked about on that show was spun into something about race. Go back and count up the number of times race was mentioned. Blacks claim to want to get past race, get to a point where race doesn't matter. But yet at every turn they throw race into the subject at hand. Just let it go. Until all ppl decide to do this things will never get better.

I hate to continue the "racist outrage" that some of you will call this, but it's true. Looking at it as objectively as possible, in the current times in America most white people are trying to get beyond race while blacks continue to harp on it. If you don't believe me then turn on your TV to CNN, MSNBC, or pretty much any other major news network and watch for five minutes. Again, I hate to make this about race, but this is the sad truth. Now cue everyone calling me racist for stating the unfortunate truth.
re: DJ Lemahieu's game tying hit in game 1
Posted by John Beckwith on 7/1/09 at 10:45 pm
Not to take anything away from Jared, but I also think DJ should have been MVP.
Also, I was thinking about this the other day. Say Arizona State beats Texas on Friday and forces a game Saturday. Ruffin would have likely pitched that game meaning Jungman would have pitched Game 1 against us. We could have easily been down 1-0 and who knows what would have happened after that.
