re: Les Paul model opinions
Posted by TRmadhatter on 3/11/25 at 5:11 pm
Thank y’all all for the input! As some of y’all suggested I went to my local guitar shop with the mindset to find the best playing/feeling Les Paul for me. I played every single one they had in stock. Standards, studios, customs, even jr’s and specials. I found after playing every single one that the hands down best playing, sounding, feeling guitar was a Les Paul 50s standard faded In vintage honey burst that was brand new. I love satin necks and this one with the chunky 50s profile felt amazing. Now being stupid me there was a beautiful regular 50s standard honey burst that I pretty much forced myself to like because of the look of the glossy flamed top. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a bad guitar by any means! It just wasn’t anything like the faded one I played. So being stupid i bought the regular gloss standard and walked out the door with it. I sat in my car for 10 minutes regretting not buying the other guitar. So I finally decided to go inside and see if i could switch them out and the guy behind the counter just kinda laughed and said “yeah you aren’t the first one to do this lol”. He ended up switching the guitars out no problem at all and i ended up with the guitar I’ve dreamed about since I first started playing at 7 years old. I feel like i finally found MY guitar.
Les Paul model opinions
Posted by TRmadhatter on 3/7/25 at 6:17 pm
So I’ve owned or played a lot of different guitars over the years. Anything from fenders, Gretsch, charvel, PRS, Ibanez, etc. My current guitar that i play the majority of the time live is an epiphone Les Paul 60s standard and i absolutely have no complaints especially for the price. I’ve always favored the way Les Paul style guitars play, probably because my first electric was a peavey Les Paul style guitar. My dream guitar has always been a Gibson though and I’m finally in the position to where I can buy one with the money I make giging comfortably. With so many different options I’m stuck on which one to buy. Thoughts?
Thoughts on Springfield sa-35
Posted by TRmadhatter on 2/22/25 at 11:49 am
I’ve been wanting something a little more traditional to carry and the sa-35 is really intriguing. Especially since it’s a double stack 9mm instead of a single stack like a 1911, thoughts?
re: 7mm-08 vs 6.5 CM for youth
Posted by TRmadhatter on 12/19/24 at 6:35 pm
I’ve seen many of deer killed with each caliber and with well placed shot they both do the job. In my opinion it comes down to the bullet itself that makes the most difference.
That being said in my opinion the 7mm-08 is a better cartridge even out to 1000 yards with the correct bullet. And within 500 yards there is really no comparison. What people don’t look at is the range in hunting bullet weights you can run in a 7mm-08 and be more effective out to distance than the 6.5 can. Most people run the stereotypical 140 grain bullet out of each cartridge. But if you get to researching and doing the ballistic. You’ll realize that the 7mm-08 can trump a 6.5 with heavier hunting loads

re: Crossbow and recurve recs?

Like others have said as far as recurves you can’t go wrong with any bow made by bear. Only suggestion I could give is to keep your draw weight low and focus on form. From experience I can tell you the worst thing to do is let your pride get the best of you and try to draw too much weight. It’s better to be accurate from 10 yards than un accurate at 40 yards

Also to say that Robert plants lyrics weren’t deeply thought out tells me you haven’t listen to much Led Zeppelin material besides what’s played on FM rock radio today.

I should add that great lyrics can be written in a lot of ways. Whether it be the heartfelt storyteller writing’s of Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, or even modern musicians, like the earlier songs of Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan. Or it can be poetic, deeply thought out lyrics, like Robert Plants or Neal Pearts. For example follow you to Virgie, Pancho, and Lefty, burn burn burn and LA Freeway are all songs when I first heard them I didn’t just hear them I felt them. On the other hand, you can’t get any more deeply thought out, beautiful lyrics, like 10 years gone. Or the extremely profound lyrics of limelight. And also, I must add that not all modern music has the bad lyrics. It’s just mainly main stream music. Even though a lot of main stream pop music of the 60s and 70s had terrible lyrics too.

Layla- Derek and the dominoes
Pretty easy considering they don’t have another studio album lol.

Greatest lyricists of all time
Posted by TRmadhatter on 3/21/24 at 5:26 pm
Watched this Rick Beato video today and it really made me realize how far we’ve come from the great lyricist’s of the past. Songs today make me cringe because they’re either extremely cliché, make absolutely no sense, or add no flavor to the song. Then you go back and listen to Robert Plants lyrics in 10 years gone, Kashmir or even black dog. You really start to realize how far we’ve fallen from poetry in music, and also how society doesn’t care about poetic lines anymore. It’s all about a catchy chorus. So who do y’all consider to be great lyricist?

Ah I know you, You’re the one whose dad ran whiskey with your uncle in a big black dodge that he bought at an auction at the masons lodge.

Definitely in my top 5. One of the most well written and influential songs of all time.
Greatest country song ever(in your opinion)
Posted by TRmadhatter on 9/13/23 at 10:00 am
I was in my truck earlier this morning and Pancho and Lefty came on. I’ve heard that song a million times in my life but every time I hear it it sends chills down my spine. So in my opinion(which doesn’t mean shite) that’s the greatest country song ever

re: Rifles In Vehicles - Louisiana
Posted by TRmadhatter on 9/6/23 at 4:54 pm
It’s perfectly legal in the state of Louisiana. I live in a very rural community with an extremely bad hog problem. So every farmer I know has a firearm in their farm truck. It’s really no different than keeping a toolbox or an air compressor for us.
re: Opinions on Winchester SX4, Remington V3 & Versa Max

I’ve had a v3 for a few years now and have never had any problems with it. It’s extremely soft shooting and eats everything I shoot through it. Though I think I got extremely lucky with it considering Remingtons quality control issues over the years.
re: Opinions on Henry big boy

I’ve looked into the new ruger marlins and I’ve really considered them also. Aesthetically they look more appealing than the Henry and personally having a tube mag on something other than a 22 just feels wrong. The only real reason I’ve ever considered the Henry over the Marlin is just my experience with Henry’s customer service. Also, I have an AR as my truck gun right now and it won’t be leaving any time soon because I need something to keep a thermal on for hogs. Having a lever gun handy is mainly just to feel like Gus McCrae

I should add I had that I had a very similar experience with Henry. During the whole Covid shite show I had a firing pin break on a very old very well used golden boy. Well turns out Henry change their design on the firing pins a long time ago and my gun couldn’t be fixed. So just over a week later I got home from work and there was a brand new golden boy sitting on my front porch free of charge. So I am more than impressed with Henry’s customer service too. I just have never had experience with the big boy series.

Looking for a gun to keep in my truck on the farm. Been eyeing the Henry big boy’s In 44mag. Does anyone have any experience with them?
