Follow up to son’s #18 saga, advice needed
Posted by RoscoJelleauxShot on 9/7/23 at 10:39 am
Just wanted to update y’all about asking my sons’s coach to allow him to wear #18 this year.
Had a great conversation with coach during his office hours. He apologized for the way he treated me after the game a few weeks ago, and I admitted talking to him after a loss probably wasn’t the best timing. Water under the bridge.
That being said, he told me that due to my son being an offense guard, #18 would be unavailable. I told him that in the new college rule book any player can wear any number they desire. He said he hadn’t heard that but would look into it.
It’s been 48 hours and I still haven’t heard anything. Should I make another appointment with him?

Concern about what our nutrition team is feeding our guys.

Sorry if this has already been discussed in here, but I haven’t had the heart to get on much lately.
I don’t know what you saw this weekend, but we looked slow, and we lacked energy and intensity. I wonder if our nutrition team is even concerned ONE FREAKING BIT about the foods they are serving affecting our guys’ testosterone levels.
I went to the doctor recently and was prescribed testosterone, and that (coupled with diet and exercise I try and get my steps in now) has seriously changed the amount of energy I have during the day.
We need to optimize every part of our program. You are what you eat. No more whey protein—we need red meat.

One bright spot from last night.

Look, I know we have a lot to work on as a team if we plan on making a CFP run, but the sky is NOT falling.
We had 45 yards of penalties compared to 80 yards for FS. Great team discipline, and that is the foundation that we will build on.
Keep your heads up, boys. One game doesn’t define us as a team.

Players going both ways
Posted by RoscoJelleauxShot on 9/2/23 at 4:22 pm
Y’all see Travis Hunter today playing for coach Prime? 100+ yards AND an int on defense.
We see ideas trickle from high school to college all the time (RPO, etc) and I think this idea of going both ways with your top guys is the future.
Can you imagine Harold Perkins getting the ball in the red zone?

Advice on how to talk to my sons coach about an issue.
Posted by RoscoJelleauxShot on 8/25/23 at 10:49 am
My son worked his tail off to make the 9th grade football team this year. Having never played football before, he rose to the challenge and I couldn’t be more proud. Had a great jamboree the other night by the way.
All that being said, I told my son to request #18, as it is an important number to me and my family as LSU fans. His coach sort of blew him off.
I took the coach aside after the jamb when they were headed to the locker room after the game and brought it up again, he blew me off as well and said “can we please talk about this another time?”
No one has 18 on the 9th grade team, so I don’t understand the hold up. My question is, should I keep pursuing it? Not sure how to handle the situation.

What Hey Dudes to wear with a summer suit?
Posted by RoscoJelleauxShot on 8/20/23 at 1:38 pm
Wedding coming up for the niece. I’ve been really into Hey Dudes the past two years, I think they are laid back and stylish. I wear the dressier ones to church and I coach in ones with more of a sole on them so I can run down the foul line if need be. My question is for Hey Dude owners out there; which ones would you wear with a light weight, summer suit? I wish they made some glossy brown ones.
re: Does Sean still think about us?

I like to think that he does. He needed us as much as we needed him at the time, and while I don’t harbor any ill feelings toward him, I think there are quite a few teams he could have/should have picked over Denver. I’m a saints fan too, but you can’t blame a guy for leaving after a potential hall of famer retires.

Not happy at all today. Really struggling at work when I think about our boys out there fighting at practice.
We are one team, one heartbeat. How are we supposed to have one heartbeat while we are fighting one another?
*To the LSU coaches that get on this board: you have got to bring the team together. It’s a must. Live together, die alone (Lost quote). I was having a little issues with some kids on my team. Very similar, they were playing the comparison game and getting chippy at practice as 9-10 year olds will do. I sat them down and showed them “Remember the Titans” and let them have some ice cream. Changed the course of our season.
Going to get back to work and hopefully we get our heads on straight.

NIL Question
Posted by RoscoJelleauxShot on 7/7/23 at 7:35 am
My son is getting to the age where he’s beginning to get some attention for his athletics (local paper naming him pre-season all district, etc). My question is, where do I go to find him a local NIL deal? Has anyone had any experience with this? I want to ease him into that lifestyle so that when he’s at LSU (hopefully) he won’t be overwhelmed.
re: Travel Ball Mecca

I am so tired of jealous dads calling it “travel ball.”
Call it what it is. It’s baseball. Don’t be jealous.
On the development piece, my son went from riding the bench last year in Rec ball (with an idiot coach) to short stop on my team and quite frankly, it’s because of the way I’ve developed him as a coach through travel ball. Some of the greatest memories of my life.
I for one fully support the way the game is progressing. I can assure you 100% of the tigers on the team this year were travel ball boys.

re: If I'm Jay, I'm saving Skenes...

I actually couldn’t agree more with this. Worst case scenario Skenes has to come in for the save, pitches a little, and then he can come in against Florida. Very low downside. I’ve done it before with my ace on my travel ball team. He came in for the save and got rocked though and all the moms were so mad at me. But Skenes is a lot better than that.
