I wondered about that too- especially since there has been so much noise about J-State, and the self-promoting Sanders. Here is some insights on the HBCS-FCS absence.
13 HBCU (SWAC & MEAC) teams that have played in the FCS postseason. They have totaled 62 games...and won 8 of them That is not a typo- they are 8-54. Five of those 8 wins were from FL A&M. J-State is 0-12 all time.
The other wins were from NCA&T, 1-5. And SC-State is 2-6. That leaves ten teams with zero wins in 32 games.
This why I cannot take Sanders winning in the SWAC as a serious accomplishment
