re: Roth Income Limits and Backdoor

Posted by sapo504 on 2/10/24 at 7:36 am to
I have a traditional rollover IRA so looks like backdoor is off the table for me and my current 401k investment options suck so I’d prefer to keep my IRA.

My wife doesn’t have a traditional IRA. She could do a backdoor Roth in her name and that would not trigger pro rata tax, right?
My oldest sons classmate/friend is one of the three children - Sophmore at Tomball High. Prayers for the family.

And it sounds like police took him alive unfortunately.

Neither if I had a choice. Lots of kids running around.

Curious on how you guys are identifying as water snake though - does the tail give it away or the shape of the head?

I found another one last week but it was already dead since it was caught in some tape from an amazon box - another baby.

Snake ID Thread - Kill it or Save it

Found this guy swimming and floating in the pool. Appears to be a water snake, but wanted to get some expert opinions before I release a venomous snake.

3. My favorite winery, of the ones I visited, was Frank Family in Calistoga. From start to finish the wines were outstanding. And their tasting room experience is second to none.

Agree 100% - I went to Napa for my first time in January and am very new to wine in general. I enjoyed everything I tasted here - even the Chardonnay - which I did not care for anywhere else.

Wife and I joined their wine club as well and have been happy with what we've received thus far.

Caymus Zinfandel was also one of my favorites and at around $30 a bottle at the winery was not crazy expensive like their cabs.

Not sure if Lafayette has the Hanger Steak special with crabmeat but if they do it's awesome. Had it Friday night in BR.

Do they expect to send their kid to private school already or plan to leave before the child starts school?

This is key. If you are planning to send to private Broadmoor should be considered a solid option. Wife and I have lived in Prairieville in a starter home, newer cookie cutter house at Old Jefferson/Highland, and now we're in Broadmoor and really like it.

For the same price home I had in Old Jefferson/Highland area I was able to get an extra 1200 sq/ft living and a pool (that we wanted). The key for us was our kids go to daycare, preschool, and private school in this neighborhood and I work from home. I have had 0 problems with crime (2+ years). There are many families with kids similar ages as well and we've loved it. Not to mention I have a dedicated office now as well. Also, can get a large house/yard for a decent price and solid location - likely will need a lot of updates.

We're off in a isolated part of the subdivision but homes here can still be sold by word of mouth before they even go on the market as my neighbors just was last month.

My 2 cents - I am sure others will warn against Broadmoor, but that has been my experience.

My company is making it an issue so how can it have nothing to do whatsoever with my company? This is the first time in my 10 years out of college I have even heard that companies do this so sorry to expect that would stay the same. Also, my dad and mom both worked for years and always had insurance through my dad since it was better/cheaper and it was a BENEFIT of the job. My company doesn't have to pay for anything, but I don't have to continue working there if I choose either.

Of course rates STILL go up even with this new policy. They are just trying to cut costs which is fine, but that doesn't mean I should sit and take it and not explore the best options for me and my family.

Another option I am going to explore is to get a letter from her HR dept stating she is not eligible for health benefits before my open enrollment ends since consensus seems to be to just pay it. That way it's in writing.
No such luck on the language. The term is medical care only and nothing about comparable.

$1800 is crazy though.

Health Benefits - New Policy on Spouses

Posted by sapo504 on 10/22/12 at 10:45 am
My company just opened us up to annual enrollment and I was notified if my spouse has available health insurance benefits and chooses to stay on my plan I will have to pay a surchage/fee of $600/yr if I keep her on my insurance.

Couple other facts. When wife accepted the job she indicated she didn't need the benefits and its a small business so was used in her salary negotiation for more base pay. I do not believe it was ever put in writing, but it was agreed to verbally. Also, her insurance blows and is more expensive substantially - more than $600 - so going on her insurance is not an option even if her boss would allow it.

So couple of questions for the MB:

1. Is it legal to do this in Louisiana? I work from home for a fortune 1000 company based in Atlanta and there are a handful of remote employees at most in LA.

2. Since there was a verbal agreement when my wife took the position that she would not take benefits would that be enough to satisfy the requirement? And no I am not going to ask HR.

3. Should I just put she doesn't have health benefits available because there was a verbal agreement in place?

I am leaning towards option 3. There is no evidence requirement that I can find so I think the verbal agreement at least gives me something to stand on.

Thoughts?
That was just one of about 15 on the night. A lot of screens I guess, but just frustrating to watch. Hopefully they can come up with stop to end it.

Men can do it at Woman's Wellness Center, but there are quite a few other places. I went to BrFit on Old Hammond and did the formal program for about 6-7 weeks and then started reading up on some online forums about alternatives which work fine and are MUCH cheaper.

Having gone through the real program at first has its benefits like accountability with the weigh-ins and you can ask questions on foods, etc. They sell you packets of pudding, jello, shakes, soups, and a couple things I am leaving off.

3 proteins (the packets I mentioned above) a day (breakfast, lunch, and after dinner snack) with veggies included at lunch and dinner and a lean protein (8oz) at dinner. I ate a lot of grilled Sirloin, Filet, and Chicken. Also, can have unlimited lettuce.

Couple phases once you lose 90% of your goal, but its primarily phase 1 for most of the time. It's pretty pricey, but works if you stick to it. I was down about 70 pds in 5 mths. I've phased off of it temporarily and added workouts but I have been stable after eating/drinking horribly at times. Key is to phase off with Phase 3.

Costs are ~300-400 up front which includes a week of packets, lots of vitamins, and their initial assessment fee or whatever it is. From there its about $90/week. There are some great alternatives I lived on for about 3 mths and I continued to lose for a lot less.

Xfer of Toyota Extended Warranty

Posted by sapo504 on 5/3/12 at 12:26 pm
So I talked to Toyota Financial last week requesting to transfer the extended warranty on my dad's car who passed in Jan 2011 over to me. I had no idea he even had bought the warranty so was completely unaware until I went poking around in his email account. I provided the death certificate and the title showing in my name and a letter requesting they move the warranty to me as it is transferable.

However, I call today and status is Cancellation Pending instead of transfer. Apparently he paid about 1k for it so I don't want to lose it.

I believe it could be due to the time since the car title is was changed is greater than 90 days based on what I can gather by googling. Do I have any recourse or am I screwed? They wouldn't give me any other information until it was processed and said I would be notified via mail and she was going to put a note to the business person handling the request that it was a transfer request and not cancellation.

I would have never submitted the paperwork had I known this :banghead:

I am having similar issues. Not only should I get suits taken in, but when is a good time to buy some new clothes? My shorts/jeans and belts are all too large which leads to my shorts/pants falling off.

I am thinking I should buy some Target clothes or something until I am at my goal so I have clothes that actually fit. I work from home so it's ok on normal days, but when I actually go somewhere I'd rather my pants not fall down :P Any suggestions?

I am almost to 250 where I have told myself I will introduce cardio or weight training or both. Never really done weight training so more hesitant around starting that than cardio but think it would get me more of what I want than pure cardio.

It works well. Low carb, Pre made drinks, shakes, soups and restricted stuff like choc protein bars once a day with provided supplements. Most of their stuff is powder you mix with cold water. Tons of vegetables, no fruit. Lean protein like chicken breast, filet, etc for dinner and limited olive oil.

Downside is it's very expensive - 300+ to start and 90/wk just for the ideal protein packets. Still have to buy vegetables and dinner proteins.

Found alternatives at Sams and online for much cheaper and still losIng.

I'm in. Started on ideal protein on 1/15 but went on my own starting week 5. Still doing ideal protein alternative products with the ideal protein supplements.

All diet thus far - planning to start working out soon or at least some regular cardio.
