yeah, seriously - who were "tigers" first? us or them?

the internet doesn't know, at least after a good drunken 10 minutes of searching.

history question (settle a bet)

Posted by tigerkge on 11/26/09 at 1:01 am
sorry if this has been done to death ... i'm a noob

auburn fielded their first football squad in 1892; LSU followed a year later. was auburn's squad called "tigers" from the outset?

i've read the history of lsu adopting "fighting tigers" as the nickname/mascot/moniker after a louisiana-based civil war regiment casually known as the louisiana tigers. i just want to know which school started calling their team "tigers" first.

old hat question, very sorry. less snark/ more answers appreciated.

you almost got it right. but the bag is a ringer, and it's filled with gary crowton's underpants. expecting the money, and not skidmarks, the official will let the zebras officiating the game know to carry on with plan 2-B: throw the game the Tide's way.

if only skip bertman was into the Coen brothers ... he would have seen it coming

sorry ... drunk

we certainly used to have a wienerschnitzel ... highland rd past the north gates. drive thru open till 3am. i remember the stomach cramps fondly. did they tear it down?

Yet according to the "make 'em pay" crowd, we're supposed to assume the SAME doctor who ended Brantley's UF career is going to cave to the evil Meyer's plans for world domination and cavalierly send poor Tim out in harm's way.

Man, you really did lose on Jeopardy, didn't you

don't get tired of saying it!! keep saying it!!

Meyer is doing what a coach should do. Anyone saying different is a victim of exactly what he is wanting. Miles would do the same, if he's smart.

See, I disagree. I think it perpetuates the cavalier attitude in football that a knock on the head isn't a big deal. It would set a much better example to come clean and use this as a teachable moment that you just don't f*ck around with head injuries in sports.

I realize the stakes are a little too high to expect such altruism, but at least in theory, they should have taken the option of TT playing tonight off the table about two weeks ago. Right after he puked into that bag in the tunnel at Kentucky.
Yeah, I can't get on board with this idea that the injury wasn't as bad as everyone thinks. It was very serious. I was skeptical until I saw the vomiting ... that wasn't stomach flu, kids, that was elevated intracranial pressure. And GeauxBob, you're so right, it sets a terrible example, this ruse that he "might" be OK to play. How many high school players are going to look at all this and think they can return to action way too soon after an injury?

I understand it's high-stakes gamesmanship and Meyer has to play the hand he's dealt, but I just think it's irresponsible to even hint at the idea that it would be acceptable for someone to return to strenuous, risky activity so soon after a head injury.

So what are the potential risks to Tebow..just another concussion, coma, death?

All of the above, as well as permanent disability, paralysis, speech problems, loss of motor skills, stroke, and even more fun stuff like loss of bowel and bladder control. All kinds of stuff the NFL loves.
I still want to see some reliable info backing up this claim that the LoL docs have cleared him. Where did you hear that?
It kind of reeks of gamesmanship, though, don't you think? Most reasonable people with a smattering of medical knowledge (or even common sense) know that TT shouldn't play tonight. Yet the UF machine keeps dangling this possibility out there, to stoke the hype and shift people's focus. He won't play, the whole thing is a ruse, IMO.

For real, if they're serious at all about his future, there shouldn't even be a question. He should wear his gator polo shirt and sit on the sidelines tonight.

You should really eat the gator. Seriously, what's life for, if not to try new things? It's freaking delicious. I'd eat tiger if I could find it.

the pocket looks really tight, too, fwiw. squished. pressed. living on borrowed time. the pocket made me nervous even when he got the ball away.

re: if TT plays ...

Posted by tigerkge on 10/3/09 at 8:08 pm to
they get all comfy with magic boy. there's so much emphasis on tebow as the leader, the game-maker ... i'm serious, there's no way he's 100% next week even if they let him play. i was thinking gamesmanship and psy-ops on UF's part till I saw TT barf on the sidelines. that's brain injury. he's rattled and vulnerable. they seriously have a way better shot playing brantley. the rest of UF's team shows up, fired up, to "win one for tim" ... way more dangerous IMO than a rattled, rested, rusty Tebow.

re: if TT plays ...

Posted by tigerkge on 10/3/09 at 8:03 pm to
"you went a little far there bro"

yeah, in retrospect, i said if he plays we win EASILY. that might be a little overboard. but i still say we win if they start him.

if TT plays ...

Posted by tigerkge on 10/3/09 at 8:00 pm
we WIN.

i just have a feeling. sorry for the lack of thoughtful analysis.

but i'm telling you now - if Tebow plays, we win easily.
if not ... well, it's wide open. they're trying to play the head game with us about whether or not he'll play. they're stupid to do so. tebow's not physically up to it, and if they gamble on him, they are going to come out on the bottom.
there's no way i'm getting a ticket to the game, but i'm seriously thinking about flying to BTR this weekend, just to be in town for that madness. miss you, red stick - this saturday is gonna be lit the frick up. i'd be cool wandering around the parking lots with hawthorne's call in my earbuds.

or maybe chillin at ivar's :) damn, i miss btr

screw the O. D put it up today. against a really inferior opponent compared to what that D will face next Saturday. but still - they stomped it this afternoon. that first half was close to inspirational.
