WW2 Grandpas thread

Maternal Grandfather -- ACTIVITY DURING WWII

15TH AIR FORCE, 1ST LIEUTENANT, NAVIGATOR ON B-24. DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS WINNER. Flew like 30 or 40 missions over Italy. Super dangerous stuff, their chances of survival or being shot down were very high.

Paternal Grandfather -- Retired as a Captain. Fought in WW2 and Korea. Silver Star Winner. He was an Army Ranger. There is a picture of him as a pilot, which I assume is a fighter jet.

What about you all?
Modern Rules. I don't think a 90s team could keep up speed-wise.

90s rules. I could see some of the 90s teams blowing up the modern teams and ringing their bells and maybe some concussions. The speed still might be their downfall. they were great football players.

What about a modern college champion like Bama?
or if you don't die and survive the crash, you end up with some major physical disabilities and chronic pain

What about the other backs? Where do you think they are regardless of what these rankings say?

Alvin Kamara -- I didn't think he was as athletic as he is when watching him in college, but the dude is fast, elusive, and can catch the ball all over the field.

Zeke -- He makes NFL players look like high schoolers, but I don't know if he is declining or not.

Aaron Jones -- Quick and accelerates very fast and avoids defenders well. He can also line up all over the field.

Nick Chubb -- Defenders just bounce off of him. Also reminds me of a guy playing high schoolers.

Dalvin Cook -- He has really good acceleration and just blows by people.

Leonard Fournette -- He actually has really good footwork while running. I think his problem is he lacks initial burst.

cancel culture ladies. trumpies are just as bad if not worse.

Brees Arm Strength

We are only finishing week 5, when the weather is still warmish and not 16 grueling weeks of football, and the guy looks like he can barely get the ball 10 yards in the air.
I was extremely active growing up. Just last week, I was walking down a hill and there was a hole, and I turned my ankle, where all my weight was, and just got up and didn't feel anything.

Do some people have weak ankles?

I don't think I've sprained my ankle before. I wonder if it is just your anatomy.

There are some people have even with the slightest tweak can't walk or run normally.

Growing up in the 1930s and 1940s

The players today are so much better and faster.

They wouldn't stand a chance.

The boys took steroids when they were legal. Still, they would struggle.
When I mentioned Aaron Rodgers career, you kept bringing up his recent struggles, not career. Now you are bringing up the career of Brees as evidence for how good he is.
Apparently you don't understand your own writing.

We were talking about a 4 year range. You didn't want to talk about his past accomplishments. You dismissed them for the purpose of the discussion. I'm not trying to say you dismissed them for what they are.

So you want to use two seasons where he was injured as evidence. He missed most of 2017 and last year played with a broken leg. That is not a reasonable comp.

So we went from the last 4 years only to you just throwing in their careers.
so now you're taking stats from 2006 and you're comparing green bay weather to other outdoor stadiums, which run the gamut.
The point wasn't he holds on to the ball too long. My point was you brought in statistics that are not relevant or were not qualified with injury.

I thought we were talking about recency. You dismiss Rodgers past accomplishments and focus on current stats. Now you are talking about comparing their careers.

He missed most of one season with a broken collarbone, another season with a broken bone in his leg, as part of your 3 out of 4 seasons. Again, we are discussing recency because that was the premise of your point.

You earlier stated Rodgers' supporting cast was great during his prolific years and he shouldn't get all the credit, but now you say he deserves all the blame.

Brees WAS good at throwing deep, but I thought we were talking about the last 4 years.

I don't if Brees carried bad offenses because I don't know enough about him. That's just an assertion without evidence.

The Packers played last year with a 5th round pick and 4 udfa. Their tight ends were Jimmy Graham, Robert Tonyan, Mercdes Lewis, and Jace Sternberger.

So that would be 5 udfa and a rookie 3rd rounder who missed half the season, and two tight ends above older than 30.

Yes, his current receivers except Adams, suck. His tight ends suck. We don't know about Sternberger.

The receivers and tight ends do deserve credit for Rodgers' stats when he was playing elite football.

Rodger also gets credit for making them look good.

The key difference is his receivers and tight ends are so bad they can't get open, except for Adams.

You can't make guys better who cannot get open.

You're only focusing on Rodgers play and not the receivers and tight ends during this decline.

But you give credit to Rodgers and his receiving corps and tight ends when he was winning mvps.

Cherry Picking

Drew Brees dinks and dunks so completion is higher, while Aaron looks downfield.

Just because he had better outdoor stats doesn't mean playing 9 games in domes, and any other dome games do not matter.

You realize Rodgers was injured in the two of the three stats you cite? Collarbone and broken leg bone.

Stats require context as well.

Rodgers to Adams was vintage last year.

The packers receivers are practice squad guys playing on in nfl games.

Saints fans during the season -- we are the most complete team. We have the best receivers, the best running game, the best offensive line. We're gonna easily beat them, and we're going to the super bowl and are gonna win.

After the season -- Drew Brees is the best because he only has one good wide receiver, his running game sucks, his offensive line sucks.
You're right he didn't bootleg. My bad.

Have you seen his receiving corp and tight ends? No one, but Adams can get open. He has 4 undrafted free agents as receivers and a 5th rounder and his tight ends can't get open. Jace Sternberber is still open to question, because he hasn't played much after being from injury.

This isn't new either. His receivers have been terrible for the last few years, outside of Adams. Drew probably has a better supporting cast considering the glaring lack of talent on the packers offense.

He also doesn't get to play in a dome 9 times a year, plus any other teams with indoor stadiums and he doesn't play in cold, rainy, snowy and windy conditions, compared to those with open stadiums.

Yeah, Brees is obviously ahead in some career stats, because he has played much longer.

Rodgers has been injured a lot, so i guess drew is more durable.

Stats alone are somewhat misleading, when factoring all the variables like dome, receivers, o-line, defense giving up points and forcing you to get out of your game plan.

Drew Brees doesn't get as much respect because Rodgers has been the best qb for many years.

He also plays for the Green Bay Packers, who are one the most popular teams in the league.

Maybe Drew is better right now, but honestly if you want to be intellectual about it, its hard to say because the packers offense sucks outside of Adams and Jones.
