The college is in an official accreditation process (takes years to complete) and in the meantime offers college credits through another university they are partnering with. The college is also in the process of creating an endowment that will allow students to attend for free while getting a four year degree. The church makes no money off of the university. It actually gives money to it.

You have obviously never been to church there or listened to a message. Why bash something in ignorance that is helping so many people. Sad.

Highlands provides church services and resources to 20 prisons in the state of Alabama and funds several ministries that provide food, clothing and healthcare (among other things) to those in need. The church has grown and instead of building bigger buildings they have chosen to start portable campuses where existing attendees already live. Eventually they build permanent buildings without using debt. They have never done a fundraiser or building campaign and never put any pressure to give. They use the model of Highlands to help other pastors start churches through a ministry called arc. Highlands gives money to help start those churches but does not receive anything in return. Just because something has grown doesn’t make it bad. It could be because they enjoy being a part of something that they enjoy and is helping others.

Highlands is a term that is used a lot in this area because of all the hills and mountains. Its a play on that word meaning a church that wants to help you reach new heights (heaven) and live a better life with Jesus at the center.

The college that is connected to the church offers different areas of ministry a student can focus on buy you can also just focus on learning to become a better Christian leader and apply that experience to a regular job:

Church of the Highlands is a church that started in Birmingham, AL, in 2001 that has now grown to 22 campuses across the state of Alabama. The pastor is from Baton Rouge and went to LSU. They have started a college that is in the accreditation process and has about 1,000 students. Their are also in the process of creating an endowment that will allow all students to attend for free and receive a 4 year degree. I moved from Baton Rouge to Alabama to work for a ministry based out of Church of the Highlands.
