Oh trust me the wife, son, and I know the optempo very well.

The mental toughness comment is an anecdotal statement. Obviously certain individuals handle stress better than others. I just see more issues now than when I first joined. Maybe I was oblivious to it? I just can not comprehend killing myself as a way to deal with it. Its hard on everyone left behind.

I do know the suck it up get the job done and do more with less mentality can only be sustained for so long before someone breaks. We take a lot of pride in getting it done sometimes at the expense of our families, personal life, sanity.

Hopefully the Navy will take a deep look into this and come to some meaningful policy change or at a minimum identify some root cause.
Yours friends son may have a different experience than others? If he is an engineer, security, reactor then good on him for being able to handle it so well. If he is aviation then his life is probably pretty good right now with little stress.

Also, I assume he is either higher rank or married. Which entitles him to a housing allowance. Good for him but that is not the ones who are having to live in that environment.
Doesn't make sense. The parking situation has been a mess for years down there. Its just amplified because the 2 carriers and the JFK crew is already forming.

Back to the GW, I know Brent Gaut (new CO) is one of the most empathetic and sailor centric guys i know. He will find answers and work tirelessly to get them implemented.
There are shuttles that bring the crew that chooses to utilize it.

The problem is the shuttle runs from Chesapeake (~15 miles away). Which is ridiculous. If you live close, you have to fight through tunnel traffic for an hour, wait for the shuttle, then ride the shuttle back through the same tunnel for an hour.

What should be a 15 min commute turns into 2 1/2 hrs. Sending 5 hours a day getting to and from work is insane.
Sounds like we may be neighbors.

I can confirm the living conditions onboard GW are horrendous and have been for a while. The issues are not unique to GW. All carriers going through an extensive overhaul have these same conditions but usually the crew does not live onboard in this industrial environment.

The problem comes from delays which causes issues with the big picture schedule. When the Stennis came in for its overhaul, the GW crew had to leave Huntington Hall and the cheapest option was moving the GW crew onboard.

I do believe that this current generation coming into adulthood is not as mentally strong as previous generations. But their criticism into the living/work conditions is warranted.

I agree. I would prefer it not be mandated but it is an order that we are required to follow or face the consequences.

The issue is a lot of people who hold critical skills and capabilities that the government spent time and money to cultivate are going to get out. Also people (mostly first enlistment personnel who think they made a mistake in joining) are going to use this as an excuse to get out.

What I see happening is the first group will be made an example of by separating them in hopes of convincing more people to take the shot(s). If that doesn't work then the deadlines will be shifted to the right. Eventually someone will have to make the decision of sub optimal readiness or remove the mandate.

I may be wrong but talking to my Army and MC peers this is a bigger deal than the general population recognizes.

I had a young sailor this morning sign an administrative remarks form to be entered in his record and wrote " i will not under any circumstances be taking the covid 19 shot"
What is there not to believe? I have been told by several JO's they are resigning there commission and many junior enlisted are dead set on refusing the shot.

I do believe some are just taking the opportunity to separate. Miltary leadership are underestimating the shitstorm this is going to cause in regards to readiness. The Army and MC will take the biggest hits.

I can't speak on the AF but that is absolutley what is going on in the Navy.

Everyone has been forced to sign (or will sign) an administrative remarks form "pg 13" that will be filed in there record that acknowledges they have recieved the order to be vaccinated. Failure to do so will result in NJP under charges of Art 92. They are only working out the details of who will be the convening officer (CO's or Flag level). Its obvious they are going to make an example of the first few people that refuse.
Yes KSA is liberalizing but it will be years before any changes will effect Bahrain. Bahrain is different in that the ruling elites are Sunni but the majority of the population is Shia. An official peace deal between Isreal and Bah may lead to issues.

The causeway just opened up for select groups of people and its definitely noticable. Once fully opened, Manama will be a mad house.
The country I live in just got the first confirmed case 2 days ago and now there are over 40 confirmed cases. The government has shut down schools for a month as of this morning. The first patient happened to be a bus driver. Incoming flights have been restricted. Not sure if it's an overreaction but the government here are taking no chances.
I have met him twice. I can tell you he is approachable and down to earth. Also he applies a business sense to his political meetings and believes we should be good stewards with the peoples money.
He really is a personable guy. I've met and conversated with him multiple times. I'm a decent judge of character and I truly believe he loves this country. How he is portrayed by the media is not how he really is behind closed doors. However he does himself no favors with twitter
